Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dorguard Very good product but Screwfix's link to the installation manual gives you one that is 4 - 5 years out of date. Dorguards supplied now have the dip switches numbered the opposite way round so if setting for automatic night closure you need to set with switches 4 and 3 and not 1 and 2 as shown in the guide. I have confirmed with the manufacturers that the dip switches changed several years ago. Keep up Screwfix.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from hold that door we have these units fitted throughout the factory all work well and have been quite robust with no problems since fitting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great alternative Great alternative to a automatic door closer. no psu to fit or spur. So easy to fit and so much cheaper. Longevity wise had these installed for 3 years and had to replace one.

How could this be used to hold a door open when the floor level on the open side is lower

Asked by: GeeBee42

Can this be activated by a smoke detector sound?

Asked by: GeeBee42
If the smoke detector siren emits a continuous sound that is at least 65db where the Dorgard is installed and emits continuously for 14 seconds then yes it would be activated. Anything giving a continuous sound above 65db operates it (drill, vacuum cleaner, loud music etc.)

If you had several of these devices would you have to reset them all after they were activated

Underfloor heating

Have underfloor heating and don’t want to drill in to the floor, the floor is carpet. Any advice on securing the floor plate?
Asked by: Bob6699
Depending on the closing force, you may not require a floor plate. Fire doors weighing more than 120kg, which have a closing force in excess of 120 Newton Metres (that’s a closing force of about 15kg, 800mm from the hinge) must have the Floorplate installed in combination with the Dorgard unit. Dorgard can hold a fire door open safely without the Floorplate installation if the fire door’s weight and closing force are less than those listed above.

Challenges fitting with concrete floors

Our floors are concrete and I don't fancy drilling 6 holes 40mm deep as per instructions to fit the floor plate. Can the Dorgard be effectively used WITHOUT the floor plate?
Asked by: ADavids
I have a door that requires a plate and a door that works fine without. It depends on the closing force of the self closing unit.
