Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good but limited use Bought this to help balance radiators on a central heating system, it measures the temperature of the radiator well however is no use for measuring the inlet and outlet pipe temperatures as to get a sensible reading it needs a bigger target than a 15mm pipe. I will keep it because it will come in handy but had to buy a physical clamp style to do the job. In short if you want to balance a heating system do not buy this item.

I need to measure the floor temperture to set the corect heat output for an under floor heating system. Would this be a suitable device

Yes, this would certainly give you the temperature of the surface that you point it towards, including the surface above under floor heating, but to give the most accurate reading you would need to within an inch or so, as this is a Close Focus Non-Contact InfraRed Thermometer.

Can this device be used to check body temperature

Yes, this can be used to check body temperature, however as it is a close non-contact IR thermometer, and has a distance to spot ratio of 1:1.8, it would need to be held a distance 0.5 to 2 inches from surface to be measured to obtain an accurate reading.

What is the maximum temperature this thermometer can accurately measure?

I need to measure the heat of an object up to around 200 degrees Celcius. Will this be suitable?

Can this be used to check water temperatures?

Infra Red thermometers are designed to work best on surfaces so although you may get a temperature of water it will not be as accurate as using a specially designed liquid/immersion probe.

What distance does it work from and does it have a red dot pointer to show the spot being measured?

I'm afraid that it doesn't have a red dot pointer as it is a Close Focus IR Thermometer. This device has a 1.17:1 distance to spot ratio and therefore what distance it works from it determined by the size of the object you are trying to measure the temperature of. The distance-to-spot ratio (D:S) is the ratio of the distance to the measurement surface and the diameter of the temperature measurement area. For instance if the D:S ratio is 12:1, the diameter of the measurement area is one-twelfth of the distance to the object. A thermometer with a higher ratio of D to S is able to sense a more-specific, narrower surface at a greater distance than one with a lower ratio. A 12:1 rated device can sense a 1 inch circle at a distance of one foot, whereas a 10:1 ratio device achieves the same 1 inch circle at 10 inches, and a wider, less-specific circle of 1.2 inches at a distance of 12 inches. The ideal target area should be at least twice the size of the spot at that distance, with smaller areas resulting in less accurate measurement. An infrared thermometer cannot be placed "too close" to its target, and measurement error only decreases with distance. Essentially, this device is designed to measure temperatures on objects that you can get close to. Hope this helps!!
