Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just right! Never changed a door latch before, a complete novice at DIY, and the one I needed to replace was very old, so I was a bit unsure about the the whole thing. However, the service I received was excellent, patient, knowledgeable and this latch was spot on, fitted just right with minimal adjustment to the door that even I could manage! Perfect!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from SMITH & LOCKE LATCH It seems as a good latch with good spring. Handle is coming back with no problem. Time will show how durable it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a Mortice Lock This appears to be well made in comparison to another well known make that I've used previously. Replaces the existing lock easily with a little chiselling to fit the new outer escutcheon. Cannot rate the reliability as only installed for a few days.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good quality, bad design In terms of build quality, these latches are fairly good. But as an experienced carpenter, the design is terrible, you have to drill a 25mm hole to set the latch into the door, but the faceplate is also 25mm, so occasionally, when not drilled 100% straight this can leave gaps. The bore of the latch, corner to corner is more then 25mm. So even after you drill a 25mm hole, you then have to clean it out with a chisel to allow the latch into the hole. Poor design in comparison to other latches I have fitted.

Does the latch open both clock- and anti-clockwise?

I need the latch to work either way and have a strong enough return spring as the knobs are not sprung.
Asked by: StephenB2
No it does not. Very helpful store staff showed me and tried it; the spindle will only turn one way. This would be fine for lever style handles but not if you have doorknobs and want the luxury of turning either way on both sides. The cheaper single sprung option turns both ways but my doorknobs won't allow the latch to return every time.

Is this suitable for un-sprung heavy mortice door knobs.

Can you please advise whether these latches are suitable for use with un-sprung heavy mortice door knobs?
Asked by: Juhal
Hello Juhal, This will be suitable to use with a heavy Mortice knob by returning the knob on the spring. However one concern maybe the knob maybe difficult to turn especially if a person is frail. Thank you for using Q&A SW

Are these CE fire rated with a CE marking?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hello, Thank you for your enquiry. I think there maybe some confusion here, additional Intumescent protection is required for fire doors. Hope that helps. Thank you for using Q&A. MH
