Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job but…. Purchased to replace same make and type of switch. Previous one had pull cord jam that was fitted 3 years ago. Person was using pull isolator switch as the main on and off to the shower until it jammed. I explained the need to leave switch on as its purpose is to isolate shower for maintenance purposes, not to use it as the main on off switch but use the on off button on the shower. The person will do this from now on, hopefully new replacement will last a lot longer than the previous one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Decent pull cord, can't fault the MK stuff. The only thing stopping it from being 5 stars is the lack of 2 earth terminals.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another quality MK product Replaced an old pull switch as it had discoloured, bought this MK one as it looked better quality than others I'd seen in DIY stores, I wasn't wrong, easy to fit, looks good.

Can I use this switch for a 9.5kW shower or will I have to use a 45a pull cord switch

Asked by: ZakiSalik

Neon light is constantly on.

The Red light stays on constantly. I assume the Live wires need swapping over, does the neutral cables also need swapping? Or just swapping the Red Live cables sufice?
Asked by: PAF1621
It depends on which sub-variant you were supplied with. This happened to me. But on reading, the small (very) print in the instructions state that the behaviour of the neon light depends upon whether the internal circuitry of the mechanism is type1 or type 2 configuration. Check this out first. Do not assume incorrect wiring. This is bad. That different configurations exist (or did exist) and which type you have should be stated boldly on the outer packaging and not hidden away inside the sealed packaging for discovery after opening.

We have wired this switch. RED wires to Live holes. BLACK wires to Neutral holes as therevisnonly one earth hole and I have two earth wires. Can I use any of them to the earth

We have used one of the earthbwiresband isolated the other but we notice there is still a faint red light on all the time, but when you pull cord to fully switch it on to work the light is much brighter. Is this correct please.
Asked by: Summerill
If there is only 1 earth connection and you have two earth wires (presumably from the supply side and feed side) you should connect both earth wires to the marked earth connector otherwise you will not have earth continuity back to the mains board. Both wires should be sheathed with earth sheathing and not bare apart from at the connector. If your wire is bare you may be getting some interference that could be causing the faint red light to show

does this MK ceiling switch need a back box and if so how deep.

Asked by: MJLand1extracharacter
It does need a back box. I usually use a 47mm back box when I wire a shower in 10mm twin and earth as the cable is quite robust.

Why does this only have 1 earth terminal?

It doesn’t seem highly satisfactory to put both earths (one from shower, other from supply) into the same terminal when other models have a terminal for each earth. Is this right?
Asked by: Willmo
Good Morning, Thank you for your query. This model does indeed use a single earthing terminal arrangement. The earth terminal for the K3151 (which is the double pole version more suited to showers) can house: 4x 2.5mm , 2x 4.0mm or 1x 6mm cables. This is still complaint with the current British Standards; however, I will forward your comments to the product engineer who reviews the products regularly. Kind regards MK Technical
