McAlpine Scale Defender is a compact water conditioner that provides reliable whole-house limescale protection. It offers effective water treatment that helps reduce energy costs and extend the life of appliances and sanitaryware. It is a less cumbersome and more affordable alternative to a traditional water softener, ideal for homes where space or cost is a consideration. When in use, the polyphosphate forms a gel. A red indicator ball floats on the surface to show the remaining amount. When the ball reaches the bottom, the cartridge is empty and should be replaced. Polyphosphate coats calcium and magnesium ions in the water, preventing limescale from forming on surfaces. The minerals remain in the water, so limescale test kits will still detect hardness, but deposits will not form on appliances or fittings.
