Rated 5 out of 5 by from 'Just The Job' Great product - Installed in a bathroom cupboard for underfloor heating. Nice tight seals and appears good quality

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fundamental design flaw. Warning. Most plugs will not fit. Agree with previous review. “Well made product with one massive design flaw, as noted earlier but not flagged up in the stars awarded. The flex outlet is central to the unit, the actual socket position is offset. It is not therefore possible to get a device with moulded plug to fit in it, thus ruling out many. It is completely unneccessary, and one can only assume that they never tried it out in the real world. "

Rated 2 out of 5 by from IP Socket Initially happy with socket based on price and and construction. However, day to day use of socket has proved problematic. Difficulty unclipping flap locking catches in cold weather is one issue. Also, plugging in any kind of 3 pin plug with a moulded tail (such as my Flymo power lead) is made almost impossible due to the 3 pin socket being offset to the left of the cable entry/exit slot at the bottom of the unit.

Can you place this in a bathroom?

Asked by: Joey1111111
Bathrooms are considered as 'Special Locations' as defined in BS7671 Wiring Regulations. Within the zones of the bathroom (which creates the requirements for IP rated light fixtures, fans etc) it is not permitted to install a socket outlet within 3 meters of a body of water (i.e. a bath) This is regardless of residual current protection or IP rating being present in the installation or at the outlet with the exception of an internally fused low-output transformer shaver point. As most peoples bathrooms are not large enough to accommodate this distance it's unlikely. The main reason for this is to prevent people using appliances in bath tubs like hairdryers or god forbit even toasters!!! (as flex length is not normally anywhere near as long as 3 meters, preventing misuse) So the outdoor socket cannot be used with the bathroom, unless you have a rather large bathroom which would accommodate the 3 meter rule.

Mounting height

I have recently purchased one of these sockets and the instructions state that it should be mounted at least 500mm above any horizontal surfaces - why is this and is it mandatory?
Asked by: Conan56
Hello Conan56, The sockets are mounted at this height to maintain the IP rating of the socket. We would always recommend following the instructions when installing items such as these. Thank you for using Q&A SW

Are the cable entries suitable for a SWA gland

Asked by: Deano90
Hi Deano90, Yes this will accept an SWA gland. The knock-outs have a diameter of 20mm and the instructions recommend the use of an IP66 gland in order to maintain the IP66 rating of this socket. Thanks for using Screwfix Q&A. JT
