Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost Perfect Shelf Brackets Completely agree with the previous two reviews, these brackets are so close to being perfect. I used 3 brackets per shelf for 155mm deep, 40mm thick, 1000mm long oak shelves. The brackets are fixed into concrete block through 20mm plaster using 8mm wall plugs and 5x60mm stainless screws and they are rock solid, perfect for the glass jars and cook books they'll be holding. The 155mm depth is obviously 5mm less than the minimum depth stated - it took a lot of care not to come through the face with the 14mm auger bit but was just about possible using a depth stop. You also need to be careful to drill square into the shelf and not skewed, although if you do the adjustability of the brackets should compensate. The length of the drill bit required prohibits the use of a drill press attachment for drilling perfectly straight. I also taped some coarse sand paper to a 12mm drill bit to widen the 14mm drill holes a little, this gave a nice snug fit. I used a router to make the pockets for the brackets - one thing that occurred was it would be handy if Hafele could also supply a router jig to speed up the process. In the end I made my own jig as I had quite a lot to do. The adjustability of the brackets meant the shelves are all perfectly level, front-to-back and side-to-side, overall a very clever if time-consuming product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Needs a bit of thought as to how to fit as the previous review stated. I used 40MM Oak work top for my shelf and drilled 14mm holes with a long spiral wood bit. I then used a piece of 12mm steel bar with aluminium Oxide Paper taped round it to open up the holes to give a push fit to the 14mm shelf bars. Bored the large cutout with a 12mm router cutter in a plunge router easy to do and very clean cut.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ingenious, but hard to fit. An ingenious product providing vertical angle and horizontal position adjustment within a compact and very strong mounting. However, don’t expect installation to be easy. Especially if your shelf is close to the mimimum thickness (25mm). Do expect it to take much longer than a normal shelf install. Problems I came across: Instructions call for dia 14 drill for the “rods” into the rear of the shelf. Problem one is that they have manufactured the rods in 14mm dia steel. Hence once the timber relaxes back a little after using a 14mm wood bit, they won’t fit in. Since 14.5mm drills don’t exist, I either needed to grind down an old 16mm flat bit, or just drill them bigger. I used a slightly undersized 16mm bit in the end, and the slop was quite small enough, adequate for me, perhaps not so if you are very particular. You will also need 200mm long (~14.5mm as above) drill bit. (Most flat wood bits are 150mm long, and this is too short) Since I used a normal flat bit set, I hacksawed ~ 30mm off the “rods” instead. No problem in a strong oak shelf. Drilling and carving out the trapezoidal space for the base block is a little time consuming. Bear in mind that the opening is nearly 40mm deep, and if you use 25mm thick shelf material, you will have about 2 or 3 mm wall thickness remaining, so care is needed, and some really sharp chisels. I wouldn’t attempt it in anything other than good hardwood in this thickness. (If you can accurately fit a mortice lock by hand, you should be fine). Finally, don’t even think about it unless you have solid masonry plastered walls. (No plasterboard, no dot & dab, no stud walls, & soft block at your peril). So.. Ingenious, yes. But it reinforces the engineering simplicity of proper shelf brackets!

weight capacity ?

If multiples of this bracket are used on one shelf, for example 4 would the weight bearing capacity increase i.e 60 Kg rather than 15 Kg ?
Asked by: Glennski
There is an issue with the wall fixing capacity. eg if you are screwing into concrete the load capacity is far higher than when bolting onto a plasterboard partition. There is also the cantilever effect where the load capacity is greater the closer an object is to the wall. The 15kg stated load is therefore meaningless. I have used these brackets for many years & my advice is to only use them for decorative shelves which do not carry a heavy load such as 15kgs. They can bend over the years.

How does this work?

Asked by: Kenlynn
You fit these brackets to the wall and then your shelves which have 14mm holes in them, then slot onto them. I would silicone them in as well. I use 38mm scaffolding boards for the shelves
