Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great in theory The bit in theory is the exact right bit of kit for the job, however, the grub screw used to retain the depth finder is fixed with what I assume is a 1mm hex key. I’ve come to find that I don’t own a 1mm key in any of my sets (only going as low as 1.5mm) and the bit doesn’t come with one, so unless you have a 1mm key in your set you’ll need one of those too. For the price I’m almost appalled that there isn’t a key included. I have to recommend the product as it’s perfectly suited to the job that it’s required to do, but oversights like this are incredibly frustrating.

How does it work?

What am I missing, I can see depth control and what would drill the hole but how does it make an undercut? I have no idea what to expect when I drill into the wall in terms of thickness and any gap for the wings(17yr old house, wall separating two rooms)

Gripits are designed for plasterboard thickness of 9.5mm-15mm. Most plasterboard has a gap behind, however, if it is double thickness, insulated or dot and dab fixed, then there is no gap. The Undercutting Tool is used after the initial hole is drilled for the Gripit; it should be used in a circular, clockwise motion which allows the area behind the plasterboard to be cleared. This will then allow the wings on the Gripit to open in the recess made. We do have a helpful ‘How To Use’ demonstration video, which may help to answer any further questions you may have https://youtu.be/l3otCPLYmz0 If you did have any further installation queries, please contact us at info@gripitfixings.com , as we are always more than happy to answer them.

gripit undercutting tool

is there a more robust tool available for carrying out this operation? we are looking at placing an order for approx 1500 25mm gripit fixings and will need the tool to enable fixing of each one. They look rather flimsey
