Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Screfix Description Let's be clear, this is a Solvent Weld Boss, designed to be solvent welded to the 110mm soil stack. This boss is supplied with 32mm and 40mm rubber seals to seal in associated pipework as push fit connections. However, where my issue lies, is that Screwfix do not make it clear that solvent weld pipe (which has a Outside Diameter of approximately 43mm, but is sold as 40mm "nominal" pipe) will not properly fit the 40mm rubber seal supplied. I suppose you can really force it, but my experience is that you run the risk of the seal working it's way out of the boss and leaking. Not ideal if in an inaccessible area. It is too tight for a 100% reliable seal. Screwfix should make it clear that if you intend to use solvent weld pipe (OD 43mm) then you need to use the Floplast SP20 (32mm) SP21 (40mm) or SP22 (50mm) adaptors, which can themselves br solvent welded into the boss itself. Unfortunately Screwfix, nor many of the high street diy shops, actually sell these adaptors. Specialist plumbers merchants only. Hence the 1 star for poor description. If you are using 32mm or 40mm "push fit" pipe (i.e. actually 40mm OD) then this boss and supplied rubber seals will work fine. "

What diameter core drill should I use to drill the correct hole size in the 110mm pipe?

Asked by: uniplumber
The boss has a 53mm diameter protrusion, so I would suggest a 54mm hole saw.

Can this be used underground and buried?

Asked by: VinceBryan
Of course not. It's an above ground item. The fixing screw would probably rot and most pipes that are designed to fit it such as ABS/PVC waste aren't rated for underground use. Mind you, nothing to stop you trying.

Soil pipe

Hello My pipe from sink waste is 35mm diameter Will this strap be the right size thanks
Asked by: Nobbyb99
It should do. This is the old 32-mm 40-mm nominal pipe sizing confusion. 40-mm nominal waste pipe is 43-mm actual OD in solvent weld and slightly less in push-fit. Without measuring it accurately with calipers, it's a job to tell, but it should be OK. What are you doing using 32-mm for sink waste? It should be 40-mm at least. 32-mm is bathroom basin size.

Solvent Weld Reducer

The rubber reducer is not holding, the answer to the same question previously was “Yes, solvent weld reducers are manufactured by FloPlast that fit into the strap boss” Please could the screwfix code for the part suplied? Thank you
Asked by: JTurning
Look in the Plumbing section under Waste pipe and fittings, then look for reducers. If you are using the right rubber reducer and the right waste pipe, it should be quite sound.. Make sure there is no force on the pipework that might pull the rubber out. Also avoid silicone grease. Water and washing up detergent is a much better lubricant as silicone grease makes it permanently slippery.
