Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for outside use I bought this to seal the gap where the flu of my wood burner went through the roof, after reading the instructions and applications I thought it would be good for the job, and indeed it was, filled gap and dried hard as rock. But the next day it had all fell out! It rained that night and it seems that when wet it returns to its paste format? There is nothing on the pack or the spec to tell you this!

Can this product be used to stick Skamolex board to a wall behind a woodburner

Asked by: giveitagoJohn
We recommend that you contact the manufacturer of the board to ascertain their preferred method of attachment - if they recommend fire cement then yes - it should work as a mortar - it’s heat resistance is higher than that of Skamolex - but bear in mind that extreme heat is required to set the fire cement - until that is done it will remain soft and fluid - and it can shrink with heat - so if possible we would recommend you do an exploratory test to be sure it works in your application.

Can this product be used to create a new hearth for a small wood burning fireplace. It will be about 8cm thick.

Asked by: Tmc1942
Hello Tmc1942, Our supplier has advised as follows: 'Yes it should work as a hearth, however it may shrink and crack, in which case it would need reapplication. Thank you for using Screwfix Q&A.

How long does it take to dry if not exposed to additional heat?

Asked by: Dommi321

Does the cement need to be sealed?

Hi, does the fire cement need to be coated in a solution to seal it once cured? I'm considering either painting over the cement or using it as grout to tile an open fire.
Asked by: diyhalp
No it doesn't need sealing but it does need firing to set it.
