Rated 5 out of 5 by from Scale reducer Scale reducer for use on water main into combi boiler

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flomasta scale inhibitor Fitting to prolong the life of the mixer valve in our new shower/bathroom. They will also prolong the life of your boiler by reducing scale build up and hence maintain the boiler efficiency. Spoke to a professional plumber who said that they fit them as standard on all new installations. I like the easy inline installation anywhere in 15mm pipework, plus no need for a power supply or any maintenance/filter changes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Seems to do the job. It seems to do the job! Can tell when it’s coming to the end of its life as scale in the kettle and shower head starts to build up. I would also say that this scale inhibitor stop the machine from smelling. This one is a replacement of one I fitted at the start of 2014 so it’s done 7 years in a very busy house hold. Just started to scale the shower head so it’s time to have a new one. Didn’t make the ten years but I know that this will be against average use and that’s something that my house isn’t. I would recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Value for money This inhibitor is very easy to fit. Using to protect my oil boiler. It has a longer life than most and is also cheaper. Better than a magnetic scale inhibitor

Fitting Location

Can any tell me if this can be fitted directly to tap. I can not access the mains cold in. So was going to connect 1 to each cold water tap pipe.
Asked by: jaysav
This device is for whole house protection - so only one should be needed on the cold supply to appliances that heat water. We suggest you trace your supply and fit one unit to serve as many appliances as possible.

My hot water is heated through indirect tank via gas boiler. I have had a concealed shower valve installed, a real pain to get at sunk into a plaster, tiled wall. It's new but I'm worried that it scale will build up in it, could fitting this help?

The shower is 2 meters away from the hot water cylinder. I read earlier your comment about fitting it before water was heated not after.
Asked by: bycyclerepairman
Hello bycyclerepairman, This product should only be installed on your cold water feed. Limescale is in its liquid state in cold water - that’s why it’s most effective in that position - heated water is where limescale begins - so don’t fit this after the water has been heated. Thanks for using Q&A

Is this any use for a home with a sealed, pressurised heating system i.e. non vented heating system?

Asked by: DIYMan62
No - this product is intended for use on the cold water side of the hot water system as treatment occurs before heating. To treat your sealed heating system use flomasta inhibitor 500ml which is a chemical additive to control both scale and corrosion. A flomasta universal filling kit is also available to assist in the filling operation. If you have a system filter you can use that as a dosing point. If you don’t have a filter flomasta also have one in the range - if you need all the products above consider purchasing the flomasta Part L kit which contains all you need and is extremely good value.

Flow Direction?

Is there a specific flow direction or can it be installed either way?
Asked by: Redz42
Hello, Thank you for using Q&A. The supplier says: The unit is non-directional so you are correct it can be installed either way. Furthermore it can be installed at any angle between horizontal and vertical. Hope that helps. MH
