Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does what is says on the tin Does what is says on the tin, but it's not white, it's a sandy colour. The tin I bought must have been stuck on a shelf for a long time as it had formed quite a thick skin on the surface, which had to be removed before use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from seriously helpful can seal a joint no question... I put it on the ring on the side that goes into the fitting. With compression joints it also helps to use adjustable spanner rather than pliers (as cheap compression fitting nuts easily deform when squeezed). ...whatever this compound let's you get away with almost anything.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Keep to PTFE Used to seal joints into new radiators (new radiators and pipework). All leaked when I re pressurised the system. I’m no plumber, so could have been doing something wrong (I don’t see how I could be), but just didn’t work for me. Went back to wrapping the thread with PTFE tape (like I have in the past), and no leaks.

Radiator tail pipes

Hi there. Can this be used on rad tail pipes alone or do you need ptfe as well ? It would seem to defeat object if you need ptfe in addition. 2nd question how tight should tail pipes feel going into the rad ? Many thanks
Asked by: HandyIvan
Hi HandyIvan, You do not need to use ptfe tape and only use reinforcement tape for joints over 25mm. They should feel tight enough to get a good seal, but not as though you were forcing them in.

What is the minimum and maximum storage temperature?

Asked by: jet55
hi Jet55, Ideally Hawk white should be kept at ambient temperatures but when used on a joint it can go down to -20 degree C or max 130 degree C

Already used on Potable water?!?!?!

I used this on a downstairs bathroom pipe already then i read here it said: "un-suitable for potable water jointing." Is it still safe? The tap will be used for hand/face washing only - occasionaly someone may brush their teeth etc
Asked by: Corax
Hi Corax, Ideally you should remake the joint with Water Hawk, but as long as the water is not drunk it should be Ok as just one joint. It is non-toxic but contains an oil that really won't taste nice.

Use on potable water fittings?

I note that other products state specifically if they are suitable for use on potable water but this one doesn't. However, that is the question - can it be used on potable water fittings?
Asked by: INeverBodgeaJob
Hi IneverBodgeaJob, We can advise you that the Fernox Hawk White Jointing Compound is un-suitable for potable water jointing. We advise you to use the Fernox Water Hawk Jointing Compound for potable jointing projects. Kind regards, Andrew Fernox Technical Services
