Acoustalay 300 Premium Underlay & Vapour Barrier 3mm 10m² (73764)

10m² roll of 3mm high quality, physically cross-linked polyolefin foam underlay. Ideally suited to heavy domestic applications. Provides a vapour barrier when used with waterproof jointing tape and laid in accordance with fitting instructions. Suitable for use with sub-floor embedded, and surface underfloor heating (operating temperature -50 to 100°C). Always read and follow the guidelines supplied with the underfloor heating system and/or floor to be fitted. Acoustalay should be used as an insulating/spot levelling layer between the floor to be laid and the sub-floor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not cheep but nasty. Used this as opposed to the far superior "Acoustalay Foam Underlay with DPM 3mm" for the underlay in a utility room. I was just as well to put down tissue paper. Rips & tears far too easily. Exactly the same price per m2 as the Acoustalay Foam Underlay with DPM 3mm. It just doesn't make sense.

Garage floor

Would this be suitable to use on concrete garage floor and then put rubber tiles on top?

Acoustalay 300 (73764) is designed to provide a spot-levelling layer between a laminate or engineered floating floor and the subfloor. Being thick and elastic enough to compensate for small protruding particles found on the smoothest of floors - it prevents the creation of sound bridges and rocking caused by the new floor coming into contact with the sub-floor. At the same time Acoustalay 300 (73764) is designed not to compress by more than 10% (0.3mm) under load, to protect the joints of the floor from premature wear. When used with a laminate or engineered floating floor Acoustalay 300 (73764) also provides thermal and sound insulation. To assist further we would need to understand fully what function you desire the underlay to perform beneath the rubber tiles.

Ok to use between existing conc floor below and floating plywood sheets? I intend to lay vinyl floor finish over the plywood.

3mm Acoustalay 300 (73764) can be laid on a concrete subfloor, and with the joints waterproof taped will provide a vapour barrier. Plywood can be laid on-top of the Acoustalay 300. Depending on the directions/guidance of the vinyl flooring manufacturer you may wish to consider laying 2mm Acoustalay 1500 (43968) beneath the plywood instead of Acoustalay 300 (73764) due to it's higher compression resistance. WIth the joints waterproof taped Acoustalay 1500 would also provide a vapour barrier. Please note that if the subfloor moisture level exceeds 4% this should be resolved with a damp proof membrane (DPM) before proceeding further.

Will the vapour barrier work instead of a separate damp-proof-membrane over a then layer of self-levelling compound on a chipboard floor?

With the joints taped Acoustalay 300 will provide a vapour barrier to EN13984.

No - It is not hard enough - the only Acoustalay product that does meet the requirement is Acoustalay 1500, Screwfix SKU: 43968.

What do i stick this down with

Can you recommend a suitable product to stick this down with so it does not move around and what type of flooring can I put on top

We suggest to use a 2" wide double sided tape around the perimeter of the room and tape each row together as you lay it, which will hold the underlay in place nicely for you. Our Underlay is designed for rigid floors : Laminates & Engineered boards that can be floated.
