Wylex Lifeline 100A 100mA DP Type S Time Delay RCD (563HV)

Suitable for use when total RCD protection is required to supplement the system earthing and where local 30mA RCDs are used to give additional protection. Contact position indication on the dolly handle. Time delay will discriminate with the 30mA RCD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it, in my opinion Excellent replacement for an isolator switch, as it satisfies requirements for means of isolation and provides additional protection if downstream protection fails. It can also come handy in conjunction with an SPD which usually requires backup MCB to avoid blowing DNO fuse, but that effectively would leave your installation exposed if prolonged overvoltage occurs. S-Type RCD will trip in 150ms if SPD (wired downstream) gets triggered, protecting your property and equipment. However, this arrangement isn't described in BS7671 and you should apply your own judgement taking this design option.

Type A, or type AC?

Product image is AC/S type RCD. Wylex are now making type A/S RCDs (same spec but upgraded to protect against DC leakage into an AC system). If I ordered this product would I receive the type AC/S or A/S?

Could this RCD be used as a main isolator?

Could this be used as the main isolator switch in a domestic consumer unit on a TT system? I.e does it comply with BS/EN 60617?

100mA type A or S in TT earth

I have a TT earth system with a 100A isolator after the energy meter. Should I use a 100mA A type RCD or a 100mA S type RCD between my isolator switch and the generator/grid manual transfer switch.
Asked by: HoneyJukes
It depends what do you need to achieve: 1. If you have any non-RCD protected circuits (30mA non-delayed), your TT system must provide low enough earth loop impedance to deliver high enough prospective fault current to trip an MCB. If it's not satisfied, then you must either protect such circuits with RCD or RCBO (which is usually a better idea, but exceptions apply, please refer to BS7671 for your particular situation), alternatively, the whole installation may be protected by 100mA S-Type Curve time-delayed RCD to detect fault currents below MCB tripping threshold. 2. Also 100mA S-Type Curve time-delayed RCDs are suitable for use when total RCD protection is required or advisable to supplement the system earthing and where local 30mA RCDs are used to give additional protection. The time delay RCD will discriminate with the 30mA RCD, that means that 30mA will trip earlier, removing the fault condition, but time-delayed RCD comes to play if downstream RCD fails itself.
