Why does it state 5 yr guarantee when my maths works out 3.4 years of life going by 30,000 hours?
30,000 hours is 3.4 years as you say, but the manufacturer is assuming you won't be leaving this light on permanently, i.e. 24 hours a day for years on end.
Even reducing it to being on 16 hours a day, every day, would extend the life to 5.1 years.
Having said this 30,000 hours is a MTBF type number (mean time before failure) hence an average life, which means it could last much longer or fail early.
