Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not All-metal gearbox This model is advertised here as "all-metal gearbox" (DHP485Z), or "all-metal gearing" (DHP485SFE- same drill but with accessories), but this is not quite correct. This has metal gears within a plastic gearbox module. Mine has been back to Makita twice for gearbox replacement due to excessive wobble developing in the chuck, which makes drilling a hole (in precisely the direction you want it) a bit hit & miss. Having said that, I have absolutely hammered this drill during our house rebuild and it has never faltered in terms of reliability. The hammer(ish) action is better than other drills I've had and the power is very good for a drill this size, along with excellent battery life too. The wobble is more of an annoyance when needing to drill, say, a small hinge screw hole... masonry holes and general larger hole drilling is not affected too badly. Considering the high cost of batteries, charger, etc, this pack almost includes the drill for free, but do be aware of the gearbox issue. I have finally had enough and am going to try the all-metal gearbox version (DHP484) to see if that solves my issue

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Drill I bought this drill 4 years ago as an entry onto the Makita platform. The drill has never failed me in any task whilst renovating my 2 bed terraced house. Plenty of power, the batteries last forever in this drill. Could not recommend enough to anyone looking at a quality drill to do their own DIY or even a proffesional. My father is a carpenter and also has this drill along side the BL Impact Driver. He thinks they are amazing!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from That good I bought another one Great drill, very impressed, comes with 2 batteries that are compatible with my old Mikita LXT drill (that’s still going strong), didn’t notice it was variable speed so that’s a bonus.
