Im after double insulated class 2 downlights for my barhroom?
There is no square within square symbol on this device which implies it is not double insulated.
However, from personal inspection, the cpc or 'earth' [E] terminal on the connector is only a continuity connection to allow loop through of the [E] terminal. it DOES NOT connect to the metal can of the lamp unit or any of it's exposed parts.
I suspect that the manufacturer has not paid for the classification testing and that is why their 'Technical Dept' have said that it requires an earth and are reading off the datasheet for the integral driver version, which does need 'earthing' as the driver is within the unit casing. There is no external [E] connector terminal bonding to the metal can.
If you choose to use these, as I have in a 60's bungalow, where there is no CPC [E] provided in the lighting circuit, connect them all up using twin and earth cable. Looping through this way to future proof, so that when you do provide a CPC [E] to the lighting circuit your lights can be 'earthed'. Ensure that the originating [E] core of your new twin an earth is correctly sleeved and terminated with something like a Wago and is unable to come into contact with any other exposed conductor.
I trust this helps you to make an informed decision as to their suitability for your application.
