Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brush, roller or spray. I started using this primer/undercoat on old woodwork years ago. It's high build and quick drying makes it perfect for obliterating repairs and filler. Sands super smooth at 240grit, though it needs 24 hours to harden properly for clog free random orbital finishing. But if you want to get a move on it's possible to get 3 coats in a day. As with any highly opaque, high build non solvent paint, the flow out is not great. It goes on well with a medium pile 4 inch roller, but if you use a foam roller you will need a hot air gun to pop all the bubbles. I spray finish when ever I can, using HVLP thinned to just under 30% with mineral water and filtered into paint gun. But it's best with high pressure siphon feed, 1.4mm needle, thinned to max 25%. It builds beautifully and is smooth enough for spray finish with Estate eggshell or gloss. Top quality and reliable product.

Priming plastered breeze blocks

Will this work for priming plastered breeze blocks and subsequently painting with egg shell wood paint? It’s annoyingly part of a skirting board that then needs to be painted with eggshell to blend in with the rest of the actual wooden skirting board.

Hello Phil80 Yes this is ideal. Thank you

Sealing old floorboards before new carpet

Is it a worth priming old (c.100 year) floorboards before laying new carpet… I’m thinking to seal the dust/dirt that no amount of cleanings going to shift… would this work for that?
Asked by: Phil80
Hello Phil80 No, unfortunately you would still need to do that amount of cleaning in order for the paint to adhere to the surface sufficiently. Thank you

Can I use Leyland acrylic primer undercoat on aluminium garden furniture?

Asked by: Greenleaves
Hello Greenleaves No, i would not advise this. Metallic garden furniture is usually powder coated, and this is very hard for most coatings to adhere too. The only coating i know that can adhere to well weathered powder coated finish is - Johnstones Trade Single Pack Primer, there could be other brands out there though.

Will this stock on top of a mist coat? My mist coat has left a chalky finish and don't think my top coat will stick to it perfectly. Can I use this primer before the top coat?

Asked by: Imran1
Hello Imran1 Your thoughts are correct, chalky finishes are a big cause of delamination/bubbling/peeling. You have two options, dilute the coating you wish to use, following the back of can instructions for absorbent surfaces, or, you can apply the primer suggested. I would lightly dry brush the surface to remove as much of the loose finish as possible prior to application. Thank you

Replacing 8"x2" wood planking on gables of house. Would Sadolin Rosewood exterior stain come out the correct shade when brushed on.

Asked by: John1952
Hello John1952 No, the woodstains are semi transparent in nature, and would show the white through the finish. If using a woodstain, just dilute the first coat of stain, follow with two further coats. Thank you
