Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy way to save energy. Pros: Instantly noticed the difference in how long the water kept hot Great price Very effective Cons: Instructions were a bit confusing. I’d recommend watching a generic YouTube video on how to assemble before hand. String to wrap around could be wider. Overall excellent item and would urge others to buy to save money on heating up hot water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but fiddly The first thing to realise with this is the 'instructions' are more 'aspirations'. Sure they make sense in a roomy showroom, but when you're reaching through a 70cm door between the tank and a lathe wall, over flows, returns, take-off, shower feeds, and cabling, it is a bit more of a job. Firstly remove your bootlace. You can use this to thread through the eyelets in the top of the sleeves and pull them together at the top of the tank. At that point you can replace it with the comedy 8 inches of cord provided to do the job, because without a prehensile tail there's little chance you'll hold eveything in place enough to thread it through all 4 at once. After that the straightening and tying around of the strings is pretty easy, as long as you have really long arms, or something to pass around the back of the cyl you can reach from the other side. I fitted this to a 1980s tank that already had 20-25mm of foam spray on it, and when I'd finished it was noticably warmer to the touch inside the new jacket. The IR thermometer showed it was about 20C warmer inside than out once the tank was warm, so it does its job.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great value but has issues It's great value but you get what you pay for. First the insulation stopped 100mm short of the bottom of the plastic bag. Second there is no way this is 80mm thick, even after a few days mine is no thicker than 30-40mm. The strings are a bit narrow but work OK. So it does the job but could be better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Effective but can damaged Without any real testing of how much longer I have hot water for after testing, I do notice that I have warm water for bit longer. I was careful to open the package so as not to tear it but the plastic insulation was torn in the same place throughout the roll so that's a quality problem. I had to spend a bit if time taping these up.

Panel size

Approximately what are the dimensions LxW of each panel? Thanks in advance
Asked by: Rick86

What is the maximum safe surface temperature for the plastic? Thank you

Asked by: Qwertyuiopqwert
Hello Qwertyuiopqwert, Our supplier has advised as follows: 'Hot water cylinder jackets are tested to the BS standard 5615. This test is done using a standard hot water cylinder and it is heated to the standard operating temperature range (60-65 degrees). The jacket is then measured on the amount of heat loss from the jacket, so there is no specific surface temperature that it is measured against.' Thank you for using Screwfix Q&A.

I've just moved into a house with a hot water cylinder, which is not insulated. I've measured the dimensions as approx 166 cm high / 172 cm circumference (86 diameter) Would buying two packs of the above work do you think
Asked by: SarahK66
Hello SarahK66, Yes, these are just flat rectangles of insulation which are tied into place around the cylinder so you could use multiple packs if you wished. You might just need to buy some longer string. Thank you for using Q&A

Can this jacket be cut down?

I want to lag a container which measures 117cm in circumference x 46cm tall. I know I could overlap the panels but can the jacket be cut down to make a better fit?
Asked by: robmsharp
Hello robmsharp, No, this would not be able to be cut to size. Thank you for using Q&A
