Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent value for money Needed a pillar drill urgently to get a small job finished as my old unit packed in during the process. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money replacing the old machine that was 17yrs old until I had done some more investigation on what was available. This LITTLE drill worked well but will not be robust enough for medium to large projects.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Value at the price paid Bought this to replace a 26 year-old drill which was the same design and almost identical. The drill press housing and bearings, and chuck (third one) were all worn out so I decided to buy this replacement. Quite disappointed in the lightweight pressed steel base and table compared with the cast items on the original. The column on the new drill is 0.8mm steel whereas the old one was 1.6mm steel but the same diameter. The original housing was a heavy casting whereas the new one is aluminium so much lighter, and the internals look very much like the original items. Having noted these changes, I refitted the base, column and table from my old drill to the bench and popped the new housing onto the old column. Fitted perfectly of course and after a bit of setting up, I have a new working part of the drill with the original heavy-weight supports. Very happy now its running more accurately with the new parts, and good value at the price.

Is it possible to reduce the 580mm height of the unit?

I have a height limitation of 500mm on the bench where I propose to mount this drill press. Would it be possible to shorten the pillar without compromising the overall operation of the unit?
Asked by: jiwi701
Hello jiwi701, Whilst it is possible to shorten the pillar, we cannot recommend any form of modification and the warranty would also be invalidated. Thank you for using Screwfix Q&A.

how tall can we adjust the drill

what's the measurements of the drill can be adjustable in height , question is will a 30cm shelf be suitable to be drilled
Asked by: jmrv
Hello jmrv, No, the spindle on this product only travels 50mm so whilst you would be able to fit a 30mm shelf into the throat of this drill, you won't be able to drill all the way through. Thank you for using Q&A

Compatible vice

Does anyone know of a compatible vice for this? I bought the Magnusson one but grooves have different spacing. Seems to be zero information available on this. Assume the platform does take a vice due to the drooled slots. Help!
Asked by: Hixster
Hello Hixster, This can be used with a machine vice however they are not a vice which we stock. Thank you for using Q&A
