Rated 2 out of 5 by from Skinny O-ring, so not robust I had previously used two other similar connectors from Screwfix with no problems. but this time it was was to replace a leaking 50 y.o. connector on the lead mains supply pipe (mains pipe seems bigger than other lead piping, and is bent/distorted). This onnectorr repeatedly failed the pessure test, and leaks were then made worse by tightening, so I finally added 2 fat O-rings to the skinny one supplied, to make a better seal, more adaptable to uneven old lead mains pipe. This now seems OK, but it caused me hours of hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, but check carefully Bought to replace a leaking plastic coupler. Check the item before you start work, as I had to get an exchange due to the olive being bent. Make sure you’re prepared with emery cloth as this fitting is on the tight side. Just one more thing, make sure you study how it comes apart so you put it back together in the right fashion! Worked a treat

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Useless bit of copper. Do not buy these for lead pipe connection, total waste of time and money. The O rings are too thin and the retainer ring does not compress into the lead which allows the ring to move cutting into the o ring resulting in failed weeping connections. I tried three of these until I remembered the previous ones I used were purchased from another company.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits like a tight glove Buy 3 if you need 2 as the third may come in handy (price discount) Used to fit a stopcock on incoming main. Filing to fit may produce unwanted flats on the sealing surface. Used 80's then 120's sand paper (rotating round pipe not along length) to get rid of limescale etc. Fit large compression nut , tap down pipe using brass assembly and small hammer with olive and black sealing ring removed but 15mm compression nut fitted to protect threads. Do same with large compression ring. If either becomes tight due to lead dragging along, remove and lightly file off lead. Fit black sealing ring after large olive, fit body and tighten to one squeak (very technical plumbing term!). If the black ring becomes nipped or otherwise damaged replace or try ptfe round it. Was a bit hesitant as these are not the split olive type which could make them difficult to fit to some pipes. Worked out well in the end tho.

What size compression joint do I need if the lead pipe has a 1and a quarter inch diameter

I'm updating a kitchen and the hot and cold water pipes were behind a cupboard that's not being replaced, and a suspended ceiling is being installed so the lead pipes need to be shortened by about a foot so they will be above the ceiling .
Asked by: Roverite
Hello Roverite You would need a lead compression joint of that size but this is something Screwfix doesn't sell I'm afraid. Thank you for using Q&A (CW)
