Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great socket Does what it says, made a normal socket safe without the need for a spectate RVD plug. Extra casing was great as allowed to use same back Plate. Cheaper than other places and would definitely buy again

will this go into existing outdoor ip66 socket enclosure

Hi I have outdoor ip66 socket can i use this rcd socket into the same ip66 enclosure thanks Will it be just a swap
Asked by: ARSH
Hi ARSH, That will depend on the particular weatherproof socket you already have. If it is one of our own BG units then you would need to have an 800 Series socket in order to fit correctly (this one being 900 series is too flat to be secured properly).

Is this suitable for having a 2kw heater plugged into each side 4 kw in total for long periods ?

Asked by: Maccer55
Hi Maccer55, Each socket is capable of coping with at least 13A (3120W / 3.12kW) or load due to the size of the currant carrying metalwork inside, the more pressing concern would be whether the feed wiring and distribution board device (MCB, RCBO or older style cartridge fuse or fuse wire holder) are capable of coping with 4kW (16.667A).

Tumble dryer and washing machine

Can I have both above plugged in but running alone 1 at time?
Asked by: IceQuestJames
Hi IceQuestJames, Each socket is capable of coping with at least 13A of load, which is the maximum for a UK spec product and likely far more than either of your machines is actually using.

BG do not sell 35 mm back box ?
Asked by: heavymeteltec2
Hi heavymetaltec2, We make either 32 or 45 mm deep surface pattress in the 900 series, plus 35 mm deep dry lining or steel knock-out (flush mount) boxes.

Will this protect you if you have an old style fuse box?

I have an old style fuse box without any rcd protection, I cant currently afford to have a full rewire but if I was to use these sockets would they provide the same/almost the same protection as having a fuse box with an rcd does?

...and if you change the C.U. to a 17th/18th edition which will have one or more built-n RCD's this unit won't be wasted. If a faulty appliance causes this socket's RCD to trip it shouldn't trip the C.U.'s RCD, saving 1/2 or full house from plunging into darkness/lose power. Alternatively could use an RCBO in C.U., but this socket is cheaper and is closer to the probable fault making it also easier to test. I'm planning to use for a fish tank due to electrics and water. Being 'Latching' if there's a powercut this will stay 'on', useful if away, so the heater/bubbler aren't left tripped off. I've used these by BG in the outdoors casing all working fine. The metal case Spur ones I read can be faulty and I've had a faulty one too. It'll be faulty when you first test it, if so take it back, they don't seem to develop faulty after use.
