Rated 4 out of 5 by from BG 20A din rail contactor. I bought this unit to act as a slave to a central heating programmer. The programmer contacts were only rated at 1A continous, but the pump alone was rated at 1.6A, with the oil fired boiler adding to that. I mounted it in a separate 100mm square box with DIN rail. Connecting it up gave me a problem because the box was not really big enough to clear the contactor end terminals. My mistake. The terminals on the Contactor are stacked with the switching at the lowest, and the coil nearest the top. Testing can be a problem unless you have a long narrow probe. Works fine. When energised a red flag appears, and unit gives a distinct click. Unable to comment on reliability at present.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent contactor. I used a pair of these to control a single extractor fan. I needed one fan (we only had one possible flue outlet through the roof) to extract two separate rooms independent of each other. In either room the light could be switched on and the fan would run. Have been working fine for a quite a while in a shared 9 bed house!

Can I use this as a stairs light timers to switch off ??

Asked by: Scott4
Hi Scott4, This is a standard normally-open contactor, it has no timing function in and of itself, but you could use it in conjunction with a timed activation module to provide the function which you describe.

Can this be used with an emergency stop button to switch off a circuit?

Asked by: callumc512
HI callumc512, If the emergency stop button is feeding power to the control circuit of the contactor under `normal' circumstances and then cuts this off when `hit / triggered' then yes that would work.

Can this be used as an "always on" transformer to power a video doorbell?

Asked by: BarryM1275
Hi BarryM1275, This is a Double Pole Contactor, _not_ a transformer, so no it doesn't sound like your requirements are compatible with the functions of this device.

Duty cycle

What is the duty cycle of this contactor? Would it last being activated every 10 minutes whilst controlling a heating load?
Asked by: Mic2876uk
Hi Mic2876uk, Switching every 10 minutes should not pose any problems with a suitable load, but it would potentially bring the contactor to it's expected number of switching cycles (roughly 2 million on average) much quicker than might normally be expected.

Data / wiring diagram

Please could you attach a data / wiring diagram. Also could this be fitted in any suitably insulated enclosure or does it have to be rail mounted in a CU
Asked by: Mic2876uk
Hi Mic2876uk, You can see more images & information about the contactor on our own website:- https://www.bgelectrical.uk/circuit-protection/consumer-units/devices under the Control Devices sub-tab. Basically there is a terminal diagram on the front of the contactor which basically indicates that when activated terminals 1 & 2 connect and terminals 3 & 4 connect, and that the control connections are A1 & A2. Realistically there is no specific polarity requirement so you can wire the terminals in whichever way is most convenient for the installation wiring. As for mounting, it is set up for a DIN rail mount only so we would advise using this option for secure fixing.
