Unit has been fine for approx 5 years, but now trips after a few minutes. Could it be that the RCD has become more sensitive or likely to need replacing after this period of time?
Hi Andy0122,
It may be that there has been some degradation to the wiring in the protected circuit (or to the protected device) which is causing the gradual move towards a trip event, or yes there is also a possibility that the components in the RCD circuitry are now operating outside of their designed parameters and thus causing the tripping.
In reality, the only way you might be able to determine which it is would be to run another RCD in its place and see if you get the same results (if you do then it's something in the protected wiring/device, if not then it was the RCD).
