Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value bit of kit Great addition, used on an older property where the board was still fuses but wanted additional Outside lights. Placed inline at the supply end. Loads of room for swa glands and terminals are generous and well laid out. Self reset feature is why I picked it for this application. Can’t comment on reliability but a much cheaper solution than ip rated db. Before any comments I did change the fuse to 6a.

16A with 4mm armoured

I know the description says 13a. But I have a pool heater to power that can peak at 16a. If I upgrade the fuse would this be ok?

Hi Lockwher, The terminals in the FCU will certainly accept 2.5mm² cables so there shouldn't be any installation issues with your proposed setup.

Have just wired this in and it functions correctly BUT, I'm confused by the "warning light". When you press the Red button you get a flash of green if you look really carefully in the right light conditions. Dont see any Red colour at any time. ???

The wording on the face of the unit say Red On, Green off. What does this refer to?

Hi Paul, The safety RCD circuit includes a red mechanical indicator `flag' which is moved into view of the window when the mechanism is reset (to allow power through) and away from it when tripped/tested (with power flow being cut off). Basically a visible red flag means the circuit is love and so should not be worked on due to shock danger, no red flag means that the circuit is isolated and thus safe to work on.

spur off

Looking to spur off a socket of the ring main inside the house for garden water feature and will be fixing to outside wall. Can this be done DIY?

Hi Johnseadog, Regulations allow for a DIYer to make like-for-like changes on existing wiring, but any installation of new permanent wiring would need to be signed off by a Part P registered electrician.

RCD trips after a few minutes

Unit has been fine for approx 5 years, but now trips after a few minutes. Could it be that the RCD has become more sensitive or likely to need replacing after this period of time?

Hi Andy0122, It may be that there has been some degradation to the wiring in the protected circuit (or to the protected device) which is causing the gradual move towards a trip event, or yes there is also a possibility that the components in the RCD circuitry are now operating outside of their designed parameters and thus causing the tripping. In reality, the only way you might be able to determine which it is would be to run another RCD in its place and see if you get the same results (if you do then it's something in the protected wiring/device, if not then it was the RCD).
