Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but disappointing This is supposed to be a complete kit and in the book inside the box even from armeg it staes the full kit with the dust guard, the dust guard doesn't come with the complet kit you have to purchase this separately and you can't even buy it through screwfix, how can you sell a kit when its missing an important part!!!!! Apart from the dust guard missing its a good kit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool, but no dust shroud These are great tools, but beware that there is no dust collector included when buying from Screwfix, which is almost unique amongst retailers who stock the Armeg EBS kits. (in fact, there’s even a sticker on the enclosed instruction manual stating this item is excluded from Screwfix kits - I only noticed this as I was looking for a phone number to complain my kit was incomplete!) My own fault, I’d looked at these kits on many sites, and purchased from Screwfix for convenience without noticing these aren’t the complete set sold elsewhere. Dust aside, this is a great tool, and does what it says it will. Use a decent power SDS and let the tool do the work and you’ll have sinking boxes down to a couple of minutes with practice. The square cutter sometimes needs a bit of help, so I tend to have a traditional scutch chisel to hand as well. On harder brick it’s worth drilling a hole at the four corners of the box to help the square cutter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You pay for What you get This is by far one of the best time saver tools I have. Can take 15- 20 minutes per chase and box in concrete block. But once I had had a few practice runs I was banging them out in under 3 minutes. A massive time saver when you have over 100 in a job!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it just for the speed Having chased walls and knocked out holes for backboxes for years using a grinder , block hammer and bolster chisel for years I finally decided to take the plunge and bought this kit. I wish i had of done it years ago as it took less than 10 minutes to sink two boxes whilst renovating our bathroom, only given a 4 for reliability as it’s too early to tell

What's the best grease to use on the SDS shanks? Would WD40 Silicone Lubricant be okay?

Asked by: miho
It's best to use a grease rather than a spray. The grease should be safe to use on rubber so as not to damage the rubber parts of the chuck. Typical examples are Lithium grease, Molybdenum Disulfide or Silicone grease. Screwfix sell a small plastic bottle of SDS grease. Product code is 181490-7

What's it like on standard bricks?

I've seen videos of it quickly chopping out concrete cinder blocks but how would the rectangular box cutter handle LBC type bricks?
Asked by: Stripee
Hi, the EBS kit as a whole will cope with all masonry materials. You just have to use different components to do the squaring-off part of the process depending on the compressive strength of the material. The round cutter is used every time to remove the bulk, then squaring off is carried out by either one of the square cutters or the wide SDS chisel in the kit. As a rule of thumb, if it's taking over a minute to sink to 25mm depth with the round cutter this is considered to be a "hard" masonry material and squaring-off should be carried out with the chisel. If sinking to 25mm depth is achieved in a few seconds then this is considered to be a "softer" masonry material and the square cutters can be used. LBC bricks may be borderline between the two. Their compressive strength of at least 25N/mm may be a little too much for the square cutters and the chisel should be used. It's still quick in these materials as the round cutter removes the bulk.

Hi - Anyone tried these on limestone rubble stone walls?

Asked by: dee2
I have limited knowledge of this substrate but the EBS kits will cope with most masonry materials. The squaring off part of the process is carried out by different components depending on the compressive strength of the material. Medium density materials and softer are squared off with the square cutter, harder materials with the 80mm wide SDS shanked chisel. If the issue is more to do with intermittent varying hardnesses of materials and movement then the pilot pins may wander sideways causing incorrect size holes or potential component damage

What size / power sds drill is recommended for this box sinker? I've got a makita 3kg sds drill

Asked by: Snelly
Hi, we would normally recommend an SDS tool to have the following features to be used with the EBS system Minimum weight - 2.3Kg Minimum impact energy - 2.4 Joules Minimum wattage - 850W So it looks like your 3Kg Makita should be OK. Just be careful not to "overwork" the power tool.
