Rated 5 out of 5 by from 16mm Depth Saves Work Victorian stonework/plastering is unpredictable to say the least. These 16mm knockout boxes have saved loads of time when hitting a rock the size of a tombstone less than 25mm under the surface of the plaster, just where you want to locate a light switch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits tv aerial sockets to a T. Bought this as previous home owner had the bedroom tv aerial simply hanging out of a hole in the wall. Wasnt entirely sure whether it would fit the socket being so slim but thankfully cut the plasterboard away, slotted in and the socket screwed in perfectly. Obviously with it being shallow you have to use shorter screws (think i used 20mm screws) but this in all saved me from having to dig out the brick wall behind the plasterboard. Can't fault it.

What length of electrical screw should be used?

Am I right to the think the standard length screw is too long for the box?
Asked by: Bensymon
As this product is only 16mm deep it will obviously be limited to the screw length that it can accept. It is most common that light switches are the product category most used in conjunction with the 16mm back boxes. Due to this you will usually find that the light switches have a smaller length screw than other wiring accessory products (such as sockets, 20A/45A Switches) and this is definitely the case with our own Crabtree products. Therefore to answer the question, yes, the standard length screw for a light switch should fit a 16mm box, however a standard screw for other products probably would not (or it would be very tight), the depth that the box is fitted back into the wall and if tiles are fitted would also be factors that would affect this. 16mm deep metal back box is it ok to fix a network to a single rj45 network gang ?

Asked by: harpo2
The question is a little confusing. If you are asking whether an RJ45 will fit in the box then it depends which accessory & arrangement you are using. We would suggest a minimum box depth of 25mm when fitting Crabtree euro RJ45 modules to ensure sufficient cable space. However if the question is not related to the box but you require verification that it would be acceptable to use one RJ45 outlet for a network? This depends on the network. Telecom/Data modules have to be fitted in accordance with the required network arrangement and will need splitting for multiple combinations i.e. Telephones & Computers in an office environment...too many variables to give an answer for unfortunately. In all cases you must of course use a qualified electrician. Thank you for your interest in our Appleby brand.

Would a 16mm metal back box be deep enough to fit a light switch?

Asked by: JohnG1969
Light Switch interiors differ in wiring space, but we can advise that all Appleby metal boxes fit our electrical wiring accessory brands, ie Crabtree and Volex. Thank you for your interest in our Appleby products.
