We're putting in laminate upstairs. The subfloor is timber (early 90s, no insulation).
Looking for an underlay with:
- good soundproofing capabilities
- 3mm or less so the laminate boards can't come loose (sufficiently dense)
Acoustalay Foam Underlay (7362G), is suitable for this application, but you may wish to consider Acoustalay 300 Premium Underlay & Vapour Barrier (73764), as it offers a higher level of transmitted sound reduction, 22dB rather than 19dB. Each option is 3mm thick, but Acoustalay 300 is more compression resistant, so will tolerate a heavier loading while providing the joint protection you are looking for. Please note, Acoustalay should be laid on a clean flat sub-floor.
