Can the ABB Surface socket act as an inlet for power? or does it have to be the ABB Surface Plug. After purchasing the socket, it states 'Outlet' on it. I'd be grateful if someone could confirm for me?
SOCKET, which has 'holes' (for receiving 'pins' on Plug) is for OUTLET feed of an 'live' (active) electrical supply.
PLUG, which has 'pins' which (as for most domestic electrical appliances) is for INLET (receiving) the electrical supply feed, being 'live' (active) ONLY when mated with a socket.
This is for safety, i.e., avoiding electrocution, because a live (active) electrical supply feed should NOT be available at 'pins' which are exposed!
