According to the national fire protection agencies recommendation CO detectors should be positioned in every room that burns fuel, outside each sleeping area and on each floor of a property. There are many different types of CO alarms including smart versions which can send alerts to a smartphone. Sealed battery units have a lifetime of five to ten years, after which the battery will run out and the whole unit will need to be replaced. It is important to regularly test the device to ensure that the CO detector is working correctly, this is usually done by pressing the test button on the alarm body.
