Rated 4 out of 5 by from TIMBER DECKING OIL Works well for a good price, easy to apply & makes decking look much improved within a short space of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great - darker than expected I've used this on my deck for years. It's sometimes less than half the price of branded deck oil which I swear is no different. I usually pressure spray and apply two coats of this in the Spring and Autumn and it seems to be doing a great job, as deck is showing no signs of deterioration after 8 years. I love natural wood and usually buy the clear oil, but this time I thought I'd go for a little colour as the boards have become a little patchy. I'm not complaining, but oak is usually quite a light colour and this really is quite dark. 'Dark oak' would have been a better description of the colour. And don't be fooled where is reads 'do not spray' on the tin. I use this with my Wagner deck/fence sprayer and I get my 3x5m deck done in about 3 minutes. I dilute maybe 5% with white spirit and it's absolutely fine. In fact, I think spraying gets into awkward bit (joins etc) much better than a brush.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Decking oil Decking was jet washed into raw wood. Three coats been applied. It has discoloured after couple rains at least about 50%. Now it looks like it was not painted at all. I would not recommend it from quality point of view.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic product I have a 10 metre x 10 metre deck so I went for this product to try it after reading the reviews. In the past had used more expensive oils and conventional methods ie a brush and rollers. This time I used a spray gun bought from screwfix the erbauer model. Well I powerhosed one day then left for 2 days to dry praying for no rain! I got started a little apprehensive as never used a spray gun before, well absolutely delighted how it covered in no time. Colour is brilliant I got one coat done used 2 an 1/2 tins in just over an hour. Left it for 2 hours and applied the second coat. Used the remainder of my 4 tins. So impressed with the final colour. Medium oak rich colour. Has transformed my tired looking decking. Great product and will be buying again. Definitely value for money.

How many coats do you need and if its more than 1 how long do I have to wait between coats?

Asked by: puddleduckj
Hello, How many coats you would require depends on your particular installation requirements (i.e, has your surface even been treated before/recently, the condition of your surface, rough sawn/smooth surface, how dark do you want the colour etc). Every installation is different, so the number of coats required can vary from person to person. However, it is generally recommended to apply 2 coats, to ensure your surface is treated adequately. However, it is possible that your installation may require more/less coats. Please note that you must allow 2-4 hours drying time between each coat (drying time is effected by factors such as weather, temperature, airflow etc), if you are unsure how long your particular drying time should be we would recommend opting for a minimum of 4 hours before applying the next coat. Thanks for using Q&A. [DG]

How do you remove this product from upvc please? My partner has managed to daub it all over the french windows.

Asked by: Trickynicky1
Last year I bought a house with decking stain on the upvc smeared on the upvc base of the folding doors. It must have been on a couple of years or so at least but it was still well stuck. I used some UPVC cleaner/restorer and that got the weakest bits off. Then left it for a couple of months and had another go and got the rest off. It was hard work and required the sun to help degrade the coating. I don't know what kind of decking product was used but I guess they are all pretty hard wearing. Acetone (like nail varnish remover) might prove to be effective. But ensure you use personal protection and safety care if using that stuff . . . As with all of these things - best to spend time to avoid the splashing/overpainting in the first place. ;-)

Is the oak one quite dark?

There are no indications of the colour on the screwfix website. Is this oak quite dark?
Asked by: Aberdeenandy
I had the same issue but decided to try it. I 've just put on the first coat yesterday and I'd say now it's dry it's a mid-brown colour at the moment, looks nice. I imagine it will go darker when I put another coat on as the tin says 2 coats. It goes on quite dark but then faded as it dried.

will this cover new green decking?

Asked by: me20
Hello me20, This should be fine for your needs if the correct preparation steps are taken such as applying in the correct weather conditions, hosing the deck down to remove dirt and dust, sanding the deck, vacuuming to remove any additional dust ect. I hope this helps A.K.C.
