Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Quality Combo-Drill I needed to replace my Bosch drill as the Ni-Cad battery wouldn't charge. Viewed the You tube video on this drill. Seems very robust and good 'feel'. Bought it because metal gearbox and brushless motor plus 2 Li-ion batteries - can now buy bare units to expand toolset.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent tool. Bought this new Makita as my old Makita is wearing out now. The new one is an excellent tool and is more than capable to do the work I require of it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Makita drill Purchased this drill under 6 months ago, would be ok for general diy but avoid if trade. Drilling a 20mm hole in a joist and the drill struggled (new bit!) Started to heat up and smoke followed by sparks. Only designed for light use, for the price i expected a drill with at least abit of guts

Am looking to purchase but I want a cordless that wil last and been advised that if not used for long periods battery’s run down to point that won’t charge can you advise

Asked by: Lolo

Does the charger prevent overcharging?

I've used a few systems previously where I needed to keep an eye on the max charging time. Does this turn off charging when the battery is full? Can I just leave it to charge overnight with a problems? Worried about spoiling such expensive batteries!
Asked by: DISC
Once the battery is fully charged the charger will revert to a trickle charge and not harm the batteries

Does the Makita DHP453SFEW cordless drill have hammer action

Asked by: GeneralConfusion
Yes, it's an impact drill rather than a Hammer action like SDS. It's better than the previous brushed motor drill I have but like all light drills, it tends to struggle with the harder masonry. Mine makes short work of 7mm holes in concrete blocks but you'll grow a beard waiting for it to push a 10mm hole into an engineering brick. But then, that's what SDS drills were designed for.
