Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product but beware. Fitted throughout my new build and generally happy but can be a little tricky to set up. Good news is the tech helpline are pretty quick to answer. But I fitted lights on a the front of the house and the switch burnt out. This is apparently due to the led lights not being dimmable stopping the switch calibrating. On the specification it says suitable for dimming lights but does not say unsuitable for non dimming lights.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Will be awesome eventually I bought the hub along with a 1 gang dimmer switch. Easy enough to install and set up. It is however a two person job as on switching on the electricity you have 5 seconds to put an accessory into set up mode. Even in the smallest house thats quite a sprint. Instructions should you wish to have 2 way switching (on say a stairway) are not at all clear. This brings me onto my first real gripe with the lightwave system. Dimmed lights on a stairway are not a good idea for safety reasons but when i contacted them they have no plans for a non dimmable switch. Kitchen, utility room, outside lights would not normally be dimmed so thats a massive gap in the range leaving me with a mix of quite frankly beautiful Lightwave switches and something more pedestrian around the house. I had to inlude an incandescent bulb in the fitting to get my lights to work properly which uses more electricity than the other 4 LED lamps in the fitting put together! On a non dimable swich this wouldnt be a problem. My outside lights i could operate using a relay but (2nd gripe) they dont yet have a Generation 2 relay - really dragging thier heels launching Gen 2 products. So like i said in the title, the system will be awesome eventually, if they increase and put thought into their range. But they have to do it quickly as Hive are quickly becoming the McDonalds of the smart home (an inferior product but the household name that everyone goes to!)

What does requires hub mean?

Asked by: gazdiysf
The switch will work on its own as a normal dimmer. If however you want to swich on your lights from anywhere in the world via an app on your phone, or if you want to schedule automaic on/off times, your app talks to a “hub” plugged into the internet and the hub passes on the instructions to your switch, socket, central heating controllers or any other lightwave product linked to it. With the cheaper Connect series otherwise known as Generation 1, the communication is one way. With the Smart series (Generation 2) the communication is two way, confirming to the app the light switch or socket are actually on.

How to pair the switch with hub ( generation 1)

Cannot pair with Gen1 HUb ? looks like complete money waste ?
Asked by: khaki
The discrption for the Gen 1 hub says only for use with Gen 1 (Connect series) accessories, so I would say yes, money wasted.
