Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works Well but Cheaply Made Since installation it's been working well, however note it tells you not to install it against a flammable surface. I had no choice but to mount the pattress box on a wood batten. However, as I'm only switching a 10W LED bulb, hopefully there shouldn't be any issue with heat. As for the product, 2 failings: 1. Buttons don't always work easily and need to be pushed at an angle 2. Very cheap thin plastic has been used on both the back plate and cover - the device is in 3 parts - backplate, round timer, then a cover which holds the timer in place. The back plate plastic is so thin, it bends in your fingers and I was constantly expecting it to break as it flexed when tightening up the terminal screws and again under pressure from the cabling when screwing it to the pattress box (yes it was 35mm deep!). Why Greenbrook can't make it of thick plastic similar to a pattress box ie maybe 3mm thick instead of about 1 mm, is beyond me. I'm sure most people would pay another 50p for a thicker, sturdier more durable back plate. Same can be said about the front cover, very thin and has to be screwed down tight to hold the timer firmly in place (otherwise it moves when you press the buttons). Again, was afraid of breaking this and the screws provided, didn't seem to fit either my electricians screwdrivers or very expensive Teng screwdrivers very well either. Seem to have slightly different head profiles again leaving me in fear of stripping the heads given how tight they have to be to hold the timer in place. Overall, it works well. However the quality of the backplate, cover and screws leave a lot to be desired, and the buttons could do to be more positive and reliable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good and easy to fit timer I had to replace a mechanical timer and this was not much more than a direct replacement. Same size, so easy job to swap. Only issue is the programming. Could be easier. However, now up and running and no problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed electrical timer Bought this to control a storage heater which kept over heating, so that it would only allow it to charge for 2 hours a night. It has only been in place for a couple of evening's, but is doing a great job so far.

Will this timer fit into a 25mm deep metal back box?

Asked by: leccy1
This timer will fit into a 25mm back box. Although, we recommend using a 35mm deep back box for ease of cable termination.

Low watt use 5w lamp

Is this suitable for low watt load I got a 5w led fitting some switches say unsuitable for led lights? They cause them to flicker even when switched off Thanks
Asked by: Devvo
The 4157R timer is suitable for use with LED Lighting. This timer is rated at 16A for resistive loads and 2A for inductive loads. We place LED lighting under the inductive rating, therefore we recommend a max of 400W with no minimum load for LED.

Does this feature zero volts switching?

I want to use it to switch something that is independently powered, rather than use the power supply to this device
Asked by: Keithy1
This is not a volt free timer. It requires 230V (Live and a Neutral) Supply with 230V output (Live and a neutral) to the load.
