Rated 5 out of 5 by from garage floor paint Have painted garage floors before but this one was for my son setting his up as a mini gym, Previously used Ronseal but this was so much better and went on easily. needed more than a day between coats and nearly spoilt it as presumed it was dry. But second coat went on brilliantly and the floor looks great. Slate colour looked good with white walls. Would thoroughly recommend this paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Bright Colour I bought this paint before I established, following online research, that this was the Number 1 paint for garages that housed cars. It needs several coats and takes a long time to dry. The instructions say overnight drying but my floor was still tacky after 24 hours. I have previously used Ronseal, ( a mistake) and expected a similar Tile Red colour. The Leyland is far brighter and is probably closer to orange than red, although the Ronseal was more of a burgundy colour. Having said all that I am persevering with the application to a double garage and the overall effect is tremendous. Once you get over the shock of the orangey Red it looks great. I need to drive the cars in when dry to know if the paint will stay stuck to the concrete. The Ronseal application did not but the research did mention that about the Ronseal product. There was nothing but praise for the Leyland product apart from the curing period of 7 days and the fumes emitted..

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor wear Whilst easy to apply and looking good, after three coats and 14 days before use, surface looks terrible with tyre marks and discolouration after three weeks! Very poor value for money! Previous floor paint lasted fifteen years!

Painting over bitumen

Hi, is this paint okay to use over bitumen paint?
Asked by: SajM
Thank you for your enquiry, the paint is not suitable for bitumen, and will lead to issues such as discolouration, cracking, and slow drying, eventually it could lift.

What can be used to clean spillages off a slate floor please ?

Spilt some paint on slate tiled floor by accident after painting garage floor. Was able to remove some will turps when it was wet, but dried on seems stubborn to remove. :-(
Asked by: Dawatkin
Thank you for your enquiry, it may be tricky to remove from slate, you are likely to remove the majority, but are likely to experiance residual staining as some of the colour penetrates into the surface. There are certain paint wipes that may help, but once fully dry, is unlikely to be removed fully.

Is this suitable for a new power-floated floor?

Asked by: Rada2020
Thank you for your enquiry, The aim of painting a floor is to ensure the surface is clean, dry, and sound prior to painting, this allows the coating to penetrate, and bond with the concrete. You have mentioned this is a new floor, it is vital that it is allowed to fully dry prior to painting, a guide is to allow one month for every inch in depth, 6 inch deep 6 months wait. If you paint to soon it will seal the floor totally , stop any further drying, and result in potential lifting and failure of the paint. Once you are sure the slab is dry, applying the first coat of floor paint slightly thinned around 5%, would be fine, and ensures it penetrates and bonds with the surface, there is no need for any form of sealant such as PVA, primer, or stabilizer, also ensure the underlying damp proof layer is intact. The power floating also needs treating to remove the shine and increase the absorbancy, either through chemical or mechanical methods, once again to allow the initial coat to bond. I hope this helps.

Actual coverage

Can you confirm how many square metres does a 5 litre tin cover and how many coats?
Asked by: Meemee02
Hello Meemee02 The product can achieve up to 55 square metres, 11 square metres per litre, This is for a single application, and is all dependent on application, porosity, and texture. The figure is also based on the best achievable rate - so over a smooth previously coated floor.
