Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drill Purchased this drill after struggling up a ladder with my corded Bosch sds model. Not had chance to use it in anger but I thought I would do a test against the corded one expecting it to lose or at best a draw. Used an old block paving brick so quite dense and put a 12mm hole through it with both drills. End result corded Bosch, average 16 seconds, New cordless Makita average less than 10 seconds!! Impressive power!! Cant comment on reliability until it gets used in anger!!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good While it Lasted This is a pretty heavy unit & it certainly looks & feels like it will cope with anything but after 18 months of relatively light domestic use it has packed in. I'll try to get some assistance from Makita in Milton Keynes but after getting the brush-off regarding a faulty battery (send it to us at your cost & we'll repair at your cost then ship it back to you at your cost; all of which will cost more than buying a new battery but we won't mention that) I won't hold my breath. It's a shame because I invested in the Makita brand on the strength of their good reputation but it looks like I'll have to cut my losses and try another brand. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Packs a punch Bought whilst on offer and used a few times now. Used a 20mm masonry drill with no effort at all. Certainly packed a punch when drilling.

Can this drill be successfully used to core drill a 52mm hole through reinforced concrete, has it a clutch mechanism that will slip if the core drill jambs, will the battery last to drill six 52mm holes through 150mm of reinforced concrete?

Asked by: Hard2shoulder
No this drill is not designed to do as you mentioned above you would need a twin 18v
