Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great, but... ...not a full alternative for a corded sds. Coring a 110 hole for a flue through breeze then red brick used up 6x 4.0ah batteries (from my other makita range). The core bit was nowhere near blunt, but not new and sharp. The drill was new and started smoking, I find this is common for the new grease to heat and smoke, so not too fussed. Coring a 32mm hole required x2 batteries. The core was new and sharp. I’ve got a corded sds+ so was just seeing how capable this is. For basic drilling it is awesome, I ran a 25mm bit through the wall in the same time a corded would take. Chisel kills the battery fast but it’s much easier. It works well with my old 3.0ah battery. The charger is smart and won’t let you charge a hot battery, so batteries should last a bit longer. I notice it does allow warm batteries to charge, but I try let mine fully cool anyway (if I’m not in a mega rush!). Overall good cordless unit, far safer to use up a ladder! For heavy duty stuff it’s ok if you have an infinite amount of batteries (or can allocate time for a charging cycle) it’s well worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First sds First cordless sds felt moderately powerful would recommend getting an additional battery so you can keep swapping but overall worth the buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent makita drill Bought this drill as it was highly recommended by a spark I work with. Excellent drill with ample power for a cordless. Good value as well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dissatisfied Bought this to compliment my other kit as I never had an sds. I was disappointed that that battery life is poo, to add to that I think it’s underpowered and overpriced. I should have stuck to dewalt. I’d advise steering well clear, fork out a bit more and buy something decent.

Can this drill be successfully used to core drill a 52mm hole through reinforced concrete, has it a clutch mechanism that will slip if the core drill jambs, will the battery last to drill six 52mm holes through 150mm of reinforced concrete?

Asked by: Hard2shoulder
No this drill is not designed to do as you mentioned above you would need a twin 18v
