Rated 4 out of 5 by from Long Term Review This is a review for about four years of use. Big old stone house that has big 26 x 4 column radiators, all been replaced and new 36KW boiler. First of all I like the functionality and controllability of the system. It's really easy to use and to set up. The main initial problem for me was location as it really struggled with all the HR92s communicating with the control panel and the panel communicating with the boiler relay. It really is now at the limit but has performed well once I got all the locations right. Over the last four years I've become absolutely and unhealthily obsessed with the boiler being on [what feels like all the time] as I can see when the green light on the relay is switched on. The house would feel OK so I'd check the main panel and all rooms would be at temperature - so why is something calling for heat!!!! Even allowing for a 4 minute delay that the manual says it can take for everything to communicate with each other, the heating would be on and all rooms would be at the required temperature. I'm guessing that the system requires the room to be at a "strong" temperature and not just "sneaked" into that temperature range, i.e., it doesn't just switch off when the set temperature is reached. The real problem for me, however, was the winter! The house is really cold and each room has one large column radiator that should be more than sufficient to heat that room. I was finding the boiler would be running constantly trying to heat one or two of the colder rooms. The room would be getting close to temperature but not quite enough. With some experimenting, I checked the HR92 on setting 10 to see what % the valve was open. I was finding that when the room is nearly at temperature, the HR92 would start restricting its opening. Now I understand why it is programmed this way but, for me, it just ended up with that room being maintained at "nearly" the right temperature and the boiler running continuously. What I wanted it to do was stay fully open, get the room to temperature and then switch off. So, I tried removing the pin in the HR92 that pushes the TRV valve open or shut. That meant that a given room was calling for heat but the valves in the large downstairs rooms were always 100% open. BINGO, the rooms got up to temperature and the heating switched off. I then did an OCD exercise checking the daily gas usage because it was so high. With the pin removed in the ground floor large cold rooms I found that when any room calls for heat, the hot water now always flows through the radiators in the large rooms. If only the large rooms call for heat then it, obviously, only flows through those radiators. My logic is that the boiler is fired up anyway and pumping hot water around the flow and return - it may as well flow through more radiators than just one because it's large enough to cope with more than one. Without this change I think I was effectively firing up the boiler in order to have hot water flowing around the flow and return and through one radiator where the opening was restricted and only allowing the temperature to be maintained. Very long winded, I know, but in summary, I think I'm saying to beware if you have a big cold house as this system struggles by trying to be too sophisticated. It would be PERFECT if the HR92s were either open or closed and not various percentages of being open or closed. Or PERFECT in a nice new insulated house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC! Best controls ever! We had a huge Gas bill in January 2019 so decided to do something about it. We ordered the controller and 14 TRV's for our house and have never looked back. It's so easy to control EXACTLY what you want - maybe turn off a room here, turn heating up there - and so easy to set up the controller. The cost to start off with seems to be a little expensive, however our entire system (cost over £1000 in total) has already more than paid for itself in the savings we have made! Can't recommend this highly enough!!!

Will this replace my Y9240S1005 controller

the controller is playing up and only switching the heating on when the hot water is kicked in. I would like to know if the evo home would be a good replacement and is compatible with the wireless thermostat and wireless cylinder temp sensor

Yes, the one pipe system is irrelevant, not as good as a two pipe but doesn't affect the Evohome

WILL THIS WORK WITH A THERMAL STORE CYLINDER?

I have an existing thermal store hot water cylinder and need to know If evohome connect will work with this? thanks

Yes, evohome can be used with a thermal store cylinder but you will need to purchase the evohome hot water kit (ATF500DHW) that comes with an insertion sensor.

Any additional accessories needed to connect to the hot water?

I have seen Evohome packages on other web sites being sold with an additional hot water kit, which can add £125 to the overall cost. Will i need to buy this also?

Non thermostat zones and slave controllers?

Hi, is it possible to use some of the 12 zones to control wet towel rails (zone valves on an s plan) on a timer only basis? Essentially 11 zones + 2 water instead of 12 zones + 1 water.

The Evohome is capable of controlling up to 12 heating zones (zones mean rooms or components you want to control at different times), plus a hot water zone if required. Each zone requires a sensor and an actuator(s).
