No such thing as a stupid question, even though this really does sound stupid.
Eventually, I sussed out that the "button" was indeed a locking pin, and had to be pulled all the way out of it's socket. Didn't want to break it, but it would have been useful to have some instruction on the box, or on the website description.
I gave up after 20 minutes, and opened a beer instead. Then thought that if all else failed, pulling the pin out might be an option.
Just a bit frustrating to be honest.....
