Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outdoor/ Indoor I’ve bought this switch to replace a metal box style indoor switch the original is looking tired and some of the same switches have had problems. This is the perfect solution and looks great I have used this type of switch before and they perform well.

Can I use this to operate a water feature and some string lights that have plugs on or is this solely for use with lighting only?

Asked by: Ma77z1
Hi Ma77z1, As long as you don't overload either of the switch mechanisms (they're 20A rated, so it's unlikely you will have 4.8kW on either of them) then there's no operational reason you couldn't do as you propose. One thing to bear in mind is that the switches will only disconnect Live power (because they are light switches really) so you may want to be extra careful around your water feature when it is switched `off' unless you have completely isolated the feed (including the Neutral) upstream of the switch.

Neon switch mode?

Can anyone advise on the wiring for the neon light to work in switch mode. At the moment its on when light is off and vice versa
Asked by: ChapelTim
Hi ChapelTim, For the indicator to function in Switch Mode without restricting the circuit power you would need a Neutral at the switch position, then you can move the indicator wire from COM to L1/1Way (to be with the Switched Live circuit wire) and remove the link wire from the L2/2Way terminal and terminal block (to be replaced here with the Neutral). Alternatively you could run a low powered circuit _through_ the indicator by moving the COM wire, as above, into the L1/1Way terminal and removing the link wire from the L2/2Way terminal and terminal block (to be replaced here this time with the Switched Live circuit wire) but this does run the risk of either causing the circuit to run under-powered or the indicator light to be `burned-out' in a relatively short time and potentially cut off power to the circuit as a result.

Are knock outs IP rated?

If the knock out panels are left in because the entry is not needed, are they waterproof on their own? Or do they need replacing with a proper blanking plate or silicone sealer.
Asked by: TomKaye
Hi TomKaye, The pre-installed knockouts form part of the tested and certified weatherproof enclosure, you do not need to replace them if you are not using their associated hole(s).
