Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basin waste Bought this to replace a pop up waste which had rusted and seized up. The hardest part of the job was scraping off the old silicone from the basin. Have always used silicone or Fernox which don’t keep long when once opened, making them expensive for occasional use. Instead I decided to try plumbers mait, which I hadn’t used before, which was cheap for a large tub, went on easily, and will make any future replacement less work. The sealing washer supplied is rather thin, so I replaced with a thicker one which I already had, and also fitted a spare chrome plug which I had lying around. Once finished, perfectly watertight and neat appearance.

Does this have a strainer?

I am looking to replace a corroded basin waste unit, but reusing the mixer tap with pop-up waste. Does this unit have a strainer, as this would prevent the re-use of the pop-up system. Otherwise can you recommend an alternitive replacement?

On the basis of the answer to this question, I bought one of these units to replace a corroded waste unit. However, I discovered that it DID have a strainer - therefore making it unsuitable as a replacement for a pop-up waste.
