Rated 2 out of 5 by Work, but only just Functionally the tester does what it says and polls each line but the design is very poor at best. The switch on the PCB works ok but they have extended the lever up to the case and because of the distance away from the actual switch it doesn't work so I have removed the case and use it as a base PCB. I would look for something more sturdy next time. 4 Mar 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Peace of mind I hardwired my broadband connection to the other side of the house where the wifi signal was weak. I ran 25 metres of cat6 cable on the outside and was able to test the both end connections with the remote unit. Excellent! (Don't forget to order a 9v battery.) 2 Jan 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Network cable tester Works well. On off switch a bit cheap. Wish screw fix had tried to sell me a battery at the same time. Like the fact the two bits connect together so you can't loose them. 23 Dec 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Poor Quality But Functional Bought this to replace my previous tester that went AWOL. Whilst my other one was a no-name brand and not terribly expensive, it was vastly superior to this one. The build quality is very poor. It was off to a poor start when I realised that there isn't anything to hold the battery in place. It just rattles around in the body of the device. There are apparently 3 modes (off/on/S) but due to the shape of the button, you'd have to really have to force it over to S. Of course, why you'd want to is anyone's guess as the instructions don't happen to let you know what S is for. I decided it probably wasn't worth risking breaking it to find out. Anyway, on to performance. It does actually test cables ok. Well almost. When it gets a connection it doesn't like, it just flickers green rather than either not lighting the connection or marking it red. So overall, if you are stuck it'll work. But it is very disappointing even given the low price point. I couldn't possibly recommend it. 21 Nov 2015

Cable and pipe tester

I am looking for an instrument that shows me when pipes/electrical wiring are present in the walls, to ensure that we are not drilling through them.

Please advise.

Many thanks
