Rated 4 out of 5 by Better than wire! This is a great way to quickly upgrade your traditional classic fuse box. I replaced 3 at the moment & intend to replace some more. Very easy to fit obviously taking great care & carrying it out safely. One thing to be aware of is the possibility that your cover may not go back on after fitting. Depends on your box. In principle it's ok and safe provided the box was safe in the first place, position etc. Ideally you really want to be able to fit the cover. In my case I couldn't. 21 Mar 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Replacement fuses I recently replaced all of my old consumer wired fuses with the Wylex SP Type B Curved MCB's. They were so easy to fit that I had replaced all of the fuses within about 10 minutes. 12 Mar 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Wylex Plug in MCB Up grading a domestic panel that customer didn't want a new consumer unit at this moment. After the fuse wire blowing for ring main and them sitting all day with no power and they didn't know how to replace the wire I recommended these MCB's as a solution. Only minutes to fit each one and now they can reset them in seconds should one ever trip, no more sitting with no lecky till I can attend. Wylex reliability and good price what more can I say. 13 Feb 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Really thoughtless One reviewer recons this is a cheap way of replacing a consumer unit. This is the problem with DIY chains selling electrical equipment. If you had a replacement consumer unit, it would have to be metal to prevent internal fires spreading. It would have more than one RCD, protecting you and your children from an electrical shock and fire. It would be installed by a COMPETENT REGISTERED person who will issue notice to the local building control. There will be no loose screws within the consumer unit, they would all be freshly tightened. You would get your whole house tested and certified and have any missing earth bonding upgraded. Your house and family will be infinitely safer. DIYers should STOP this dangerous practice on electrics. Yes they are safer and more convenient than rewirable fuses but its only the tip of the iceberg towards a full new consumer unit installation, Dont kid yourself! THERE IS NO COMPARISON between these items and a new consumer unit. 6 Feb 2016

socket into board

i think i need to get one of these to replace my 5amp wired fuse which when it trips goes with a bang.

question is the socket that plugs into the board can i leave the old one in there and use the existing socket into the new ?

just a bit wary of turning of the power then tampering with the board

Answer:
It is necessary to change the coloured base in the consumer unit for the white base that comes with this MCB’s. The MCB will then fit.
All work must be carried out by a qualified competent person, in accordance with BS7671 2008 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations and all other regulations, e.g. Building Regulations
