Rated 1 out of 5 by from Please read BEFORE buying!!! I wish I had read the other LOW rated reviews as well as the default high rated reviews before I purchased this awful product so please learn by my mistake. The doughnut is too hard and so does not compress and as a result, if you use it, it leaves the cistern sitting way too high to join the feed pipe (and obviously, the holes in your wall to which you secure the cistern will be too low). Foolishly, I attempted to cut it down to try and make it fit (without success) so I cannot return it. As I type this, I am looking where I can find a decent one tomorrow as we have had to use a bucket to flush the toilet for three days now - not happy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cistern coupling This gets a 3/5 from me. The metal plate went on fine, but the rubber donut was much, much harder than my old one. This made it incredibly difficult to clamp down. I had someone push the cistern down as I tightened the wing nuts, but the cistern still sat too high from the toilet pan, leaving a noticeable gap and a slight leak when flushing. Eventually I used a rubber washer that came with a new toilet syphon and managed to get a better fit. It's a 3/5 from me as I did need the metal plate. But personally, the donut was useless for my cistern. I would have also appreciated some rubber washers for the screws. (This has none). Also... I hate wing nuts.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Most important part useless! I am amazed at the many 5-star reviews for this kit and I can only think of the explanation of a new supplier of the most important component - the 'doughnut' seal! I am 'only' a DIYer but with many years' experience. The purpose of the seal is ... to seal! in this case it has to seal against 3 surfaces: (1) the underneath of the cistern or metal component, covering the backnut (2) the spigot of the flush siphon (3) the ceramic WC inlet. (1) The spigot is 47mm dia whereas the seal aperture is 53mm, leaving a 3mm gap all round. (2) The backnut flange is 70mm dia whereas the seal is the same at the top as the bottom: 53mm which is impossible to fit over the nut faces let alone the flange, so again no seal! (3) I'll grant that it'll likely seal against the WC inlet but hardly any point is there? Perhaps this is the reason some reviewers have mentioned a 'higher' fit! (One star for mandatory reliability score as could not fit and will be returning for refund)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Leaking cistern Easy to fit and sealed first time. The plate was not compatible but the donut washer was all that was required to do the job. Overall cheap repair.

Got fixing Kit but no domed rubber washers

My close coupled cistern and pan are held together by 2 bolts which go through the base of the cistern then through the pan and do up with wing nuts -the 2 SQUARE headed bolts go through a DOMED rubber washer to a small nut underneath then onto wing nut and metal washer . IT leaks water one side .So where can I get these special NUT BOLTS And DOMED Washers????. Screw fix?? Have now dismantled ,cleaned, and smothered in silicon glue, and refitted - No more leaks to date !!

What is the diameter of the hole in the clamping plate? It's essential to know this.

Asked by: abcd12345
The external daimeter of a 1 1/2 inch BSP pipe is supposed to be 47.803mm (according to Wikipedia). All the Close Coupling Kits I have seen so far (including this one) have holes 47mm or so in diameter and should fit a 1 1/2 inch BSP flush valve. If you have a 2 inch BSP flush valve (like a Dudley Niagara, as sold by Screwfix, B&Q etc) and you need a Close Coupling Kit, you will need one with a 60mm hole in the plate (as *not* sold by ScrewFix, B&Q, Plumb Centre...)
