Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality home extension lead... I bought this to cut my grass, you can feel it is a heavy duty quality piece of kit complete with thermal cut out and solid frame. The cable is bright blue, very easy to see. Double the length of some reels for only a few quid more. Ideal for home/garden use. I'd recommend it to anybody.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 45m Extension Cable Good quality product that has a true 'heavy duty' feel to it. It is long for a 13A lead and the integrated thermal cutout is a valuable feature. Very good value for money indeed.

Can you use this outside and is it IP power rated?

Asked by: Pip75
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. This Masterplug Cable Reel 4G 240V 45m does not have IP rated sockets on it, so it can be used temporarily outside but is not suitable to be left outside in wet conditions.

Safety cut out

Could you let me know if the thermal cut out switch will activate if the cable is cut (say with a hedge trimmer) or if we need an additional RCD protector on top of this.
Asked by: Traceyclaire
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. The safety thermal cut-out is only capable of cutting power if the reel is getting close to a temperature level whereby the PVC outer of the cable might be at risk of melting, for cut-cable protection you will need to use an additional RCD adaptor, plug or socket as well.

Masterplug Cable Reel 4G 240V 45m - Is complete unwind necessary

Please advise if the manufacturer advises that the cable should be unwound completely for use? Some cables overheat when full load is applied and this melts the cable if it's inside the drum. does this apply with this item? Thanks in advance.
Asked by: Borderdale
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. Any partially wound cable reel has a maximum constant power capacity of 3A (720W), for any device of a higher power than this you would need to completely unwind for the full 13A (3,120W) capacity to be available. There is a thermal cut-out fitted in the drum to prevent the melting which you have referred to, but if this trips the drum will need to be left for quite some time to cool before it can be reset and power flow restored.

would this be ok to run two tea urns from for 7/8 hours

Asked by: Sidad
Hi, thank you for your product enquiry. The maximum constant power capacity of this cable reel is 13A (3,120W) fully unwound or 3A (720W) partially or fully coiled onto the drum. If your two urns consume less than the partially coiled level in total then you will have no issues, if they consume between the coiled and unwound levels then you will need to fully unwind the cable in order to avoid the thermal cut-out unexpectedly stopping power running to them, if the power consumption combined is more than 3,120W (3.12kW) then you will not be able to run both of them on the same extension lead or cable reel.
