This product was recommended by a contractor working at my house. He stated that Makita LXT drills were very reliable and the only drill he would consider for his job which entailed a lot of drill/driver use. So as my old B&D clutch had failed and the batteries were close to the end of their lives, I bought this drill. It's very user friendly, comfortable to hold and light'ish. It does what it says, drills, hammers and screws plus it looks good in white. My only gripe would be the 16 position clutch, the top position (16) is not as powerful as my old B&D top (22). It seems to lack that last bit of push with larger screws (#10). The battery charger, DC18RC, works well and is as stated, fast. I had to Google it to find a video to understand the light sequence fully.

Fed up with the low power and unreliability of my old Black & Decker combi drill, and the inability to hold a charge/very weighty deWalt drill I had, I decided to treat myself to a new drill.
After much comparison and contemplation, I plumped for the Makita.
Not only is it high powered, which is very easy to modulate with the sensitive (but not too sensitive) trigger, but it's also very well balanced, meaning precision jobs become much easier and quicker.
The battery holds a charge for an absolute age, and can be charged from flat to full in 22 minutes!
So so pleased with this buy, I'll never go back to other brands again - especially due to he fact the battery can be used in multiple other tools in the Makita range.
Great drill, would recommend spending a little extra as you really do get what you pay for with Makita.

Light, well balanced, and feels like a quality bit of kit. Also has plenty of power for most DIY tasks.
The torque limiter is consistent and easy to adjust, and great for avoiding cam-out or thread stripping on delicate fittings. The trigger also gives plenty of progression in terms of controlling the speed. Not used the hammer function yet, but it works brilliantly as both a drill (metal, wood and plasterboard all fine) and a screwdriver.
The chuck is probably the easiest and quickest that I've ever used. The bits never slip, it never works loose, and changing bits over takes literally seconds.
Battery life is amazing. There's a four LED indicator on the battery to show remaining charge, and when the drill arrived it had three lit up. I topped the charge up before first use, and since then I've used it to put together and secure two large flatpack wardrobes, two shelving units, a flatpack larder unit, a bed, and two bedside tables, and it's still got two bars left.
Sturdy plastic case accommodates the drill and charger, and has slots for two spare batteries if needed. To be honest, for DIY use given the 20-odd minute charge time, and long battery life, you really don't need a spare. Even hammering the thing all-day, I think you'd get away with one spare. The battery life is so much longer than the recharge time.
Quality tool, and well worth the money.

ok, its got a good reputation, i like the look, i like the battery light at the end , the fast charge , but couldnt recomend this for site work ,1- the numbers for speed are printed on cheap looking plastic , one knock end of , the end next to the bit will get dented, just not a rebust enough, shame they cut corners ,,for home use, fine .
