Rated 4 out of 5 by Good quality As expected from a good brand, good quality product. Haven't had long using them so can't comment on durability but you always get what you pay for. Tried using them on porcelain tiles just to see if they would work but didn't touch them, perfect for everything else 21 Jan 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Dangerous and weak The main feature of these is the self centering tip, Although the tip does reduce walking/ straying it has a very unpleasant side effect: Used on metal; the cutting edges break through the workpiece at exactly the same time across the whole "width" of the tip rather than gradually opening out as with a normal drill design. This has the effect that 99% of the times the drill "catches" violently at the moment of breakthrough. In a hand held situation that translates to the drill ripping towards the workpiece and the workpiece violently jolting even when clamped in a vice. Not just the normal loss of resistance but an actual very sudden and strong pull towards the workpiece because the drill bit suddenly engages as a very fast spinning screw. In a pillar drill situation/ machine situation - where everything is clamped securely into place as it should be - both, the questionable tip design as well as the other "feature" 'anti-slip-flats' on the shank work together to a fatal degree... On thin workpieces (0.5mm to 2mm) the workpiece is bent/ ripped or otherwise destroyed and on thicker workpieces (2mm upwards) The forces created by the tip catching on exit are stronger than the shank with its flats can withstand, and so either the drill gets bent or just plain breaks off...?! I use hss drills on a daily basis, work that every other drill bit i have ever owned has easily withstood, has destroyed the entire content of this box within 3 weeks. Don't get me started on what these drills do to wood?! Dewalt, do you not test your new designs before releasing to market? 9 Jan 2016
Rated 1 out of 5 by More Dell Boy than Dewalt! I have had these for some time but not used them till today. I was drilling some fencing angle iron only about 2mm thick. First 2 holes OK third hole the drill bent. Moved up a size, might as well have been using a toothpick to drill the hole, tried oil no better gave up and grabbed some old drills (Bosch) out of the workshop job done! 22 Oct 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Decent quality HSS bits Unlike the cheaper ones that Screwfix sell, which don't seem to go the distance, these bits do a decent job of cutting through metal. Used them to drill through 4mm bar steel and they passed through no issues. The cheaper bits I had before seemed to blunt after just two holes, even though I was using drill lubricant. These bits just ploughed through dry as long as the speed is kept down. Some of the larger bits have an unusual graduated point profile which would not lend itself to being sharpened by the usual drill sharpeners. 15 May 2015

Hi Razzie
HSS bits are designed for drilling metal but they are also great for drilling plastics and you can use them on wood.

Answer:
HI There, these drill bits are HSS drill bits which are design for high speed steel drilling (metal) but you can use them in wood if needed and no wood bits available. (they are just slower and don't cut the wood as cleanly)
Hope that helps you?
