Rated 1 out of 5 by from Rubbish Cheap materials, very poor design, flimsy construction, barely worth its name as a bell - buzzes a bit, but that's it. Very sensitive to orientation: turn it one way, it buzzes a bit louder than another way. Waste of time and money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed Bought to replace an unreliable wireless unit (walls too thick to pass signal). Easy to fix, unobtrusive and worked first time. Don't forget to buy batteries when purchasing. The cable clips supplied do the job well, but can be a tad tricky to fix in tight spaces. The star rating above is based on three or four days use but I've no cause or reason for dissatisfaction.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quiet bell Very quiet, seems good quality for the price, everything was there, however its not very loud, can't hear it in the next room!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from EXTRA Loud Ringer? This bell IS NOT extra loud - in fact, it's pretty pathetic! As another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't work out of the box so if you're not adept at fiddling you might never get it working. It's also quite fiddly to wire unless you can connect it on a bench or get someone else to hold it as you need at least two hands free. It's quite well made for the price and looks nice but it's certainly not loud. Can't comment on reliability as it's only a few days old so ignore the reliability stars. Screwfix need to allow this section to be left blank.

Can I connect the just the bell unit to my existing wiring rather than installing the bell push as well as all my cabling is currently behind the door trim ?

Asked by: MrNickName
Hello MrNickName. As long as your existing bell push isn't illuminated (doesn't have a lightbulb in it), then yes, you can use your existing bell push (and cabling). With this bell unit (9124F) being battery operated, it cannot be used with illuminated bell pushes. If your bell push does have a lightbulb in it then you would need to remove the lightbulb. This bell unit (9124F) cannot be powered by transformer, it can only be powered using batteries.

How loud is this bell?

I have mild hearing loss but am not 'hard of hearing'. I don't want an uncomfortably loud bell, but equally sometimes don't hear my current one, which has a low-tone chime. Do you have a decibel reading for example, to give an indication? And pitch? Thnx.
Asked by: JosiePosie
Hello JosiePosie, thank you for your enquiry. This item can offer 90db with strong, good quality batteries. There's no volume control, so to dampen the sound you can tighten the screw which holds the bell in place. When it is ringing it is a metal rod that strikes against the sides of the metal casing, if that helps at all with identifying if it is the right type of sound for you.

Is this product suitable replacement for under dome ringer?

Bought to replace underdome ringer. So even if I put batteries in this it would be unsuitable because an underdome has a transformer somewhere?
Asked by: gmailandjcrew
Hello gmailandjcrew. This model (Byron Wired Wall-Mounted Door Chime Kit product code 9124F) can only be powered by batteries. If you want an underdome bell that requires to be powered using a transformer please see product codes are 80888 (black) and 14337 (brass).
