Rated 5 out of 5 by Probably best paint ever! This Paint seals everything. Trust me I've been using it for years and it has always produced the goods. Will go over water stains, smoke, graffiti, pen, mould, etc. Prim all hardwood and softwood timber can even be used to knot all timber. Fantastic over laminate also. Dries quick spreads out well. Gives you a great base ready for decorating. Buy it!!! Cleans out with methylated spirits. 3 Sep 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by Need your top coat to stick? If you are having trouble getting the finish coat to your project to be durable and last then you need to use this product. This primer/sealer is the best I have ever used. I use it for all sorts of jobs but mainly for painting old dark furniture. It is a shellac based product that sticks to anything from an old oak sideboard to a modern foil rapped kitchen cabinet door. Be sure to work fast, as it dries quickly. If you have trouble working with it then dip your brush in a little Methylated Spirit which will thin the paint slightly. Don't soak it as the "meths" also acts as a cleaning agent. Great product, could have been packed better for shipment as the tins. although bubble wrapped, just rattled about in an otherwise empty box. 16 Jul 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great but affected CO2 alarm I love this paint used it as first coat on MDF and then top coat and the finish was superb and very chip resistant on skirting boards. However when closing windows on leaving house returned to CO2 alarm going off - something to do with the Shellac. Just ventilate well.. 12 Jul 2016

Yes Zinsser BIN will prime the old paint surface and allow you to apply an emulsion paint over the primer. You will need to remove the old peeling paint first.

Answer:
Zinsser B-I-N Primer is excellent for priming varnished/stained interior woodwork prior to painting. It is our ultimate adhesion promoting primer, making the job quick and easy with minimal fuss as it requires no prior sanding. Zinsser B-I-N Primer will also seal the varnished/stained surface, providing the perfect base to achieve a painted finish. All surfaces to be primed must be thoroughly cleaned down with a detergent solution and warm water, then rinsed with clean warm water. Allow to dry before wiping over the surfaces with methylated spirits to ensure any remaining residues that may interfere with adhesion are removed. Zinsser B-I-N Primer can then be applied with a brush or roller. It can be overcoated with the desired decorative top coat after 45 minutes with Zinsser Perma-White Interior Satin (13040 for 1 litre, 62096 for 2.5 litre, 7123G for 5 litre) or most decorative water-based / oil-based topcoats.

Answer:
Zinsser B-I-N Primer can be applied by brush, spray or roller, the coverage rate of 12m²/L is per coat is based on applying to a sealed smooth surface and is normally achievable. A porous or profiled surface would reduce the coverage rate. Make sure that you have cleaned the walls first to remove the nicotine residues and allowed the walls to dry before priming. The B-I-N Primer is an excellent stain blocker for a nicotine "stain" but the nicotine residues do need to be removed first. We hope this information helps with your project.
