Rated 1 out of 5 by from Runs & DrIes Quickly Puzzled by all the good reviews on here. Had painted one varnished fire surround with oil based paint with reasonable results for DIYer, then bought this for other fire surround. Very runny and dries quickly which doesn't give time to brush out any drips. Had to sand down this paint prior to applying final coat which is what I wanted to avoid in first place. Also very difficult to remove any spills and ended up throwing out brush.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dire down the Line... Used with Zinsser Self-Priming Paint White for a domestic bathroom. Started off with bear plaster, which had had more than ample time to dry. Looked lovely going on, but 8 months down it's started cracking and peeling all over the place. Possibly the combination, but the whole surface is very, very brittle. I'm now going to have to strip the whole lot down manually and start again less than a year later - what a waste of time and money! Lot no: 164028

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff - does the job I've been using this product for years - glad that Screwfix now sells it. Excellent stain blocking - seals smoke, water, tar, graffiti, rust normally with just 1 coat. Dries quickly, so no waiting for the next day to do top coats. Also great at priming glossy surfaces - things like old glossy ceramic tiles are no problem - 1 coat B-I-N and then apply any top coat. Only problem is cleaning the brushes - you can use meths (white spirit doesn't work) or just use a cheap(ish) brush and throw it away afterwards

Suitable for covering varnish?

Can this be used to cover varnish covers stairs
Asked by: 6969Sparky69
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. B-I-N would be the perfect for this particular project. It has unparalleled adhesion to any surface providing great key without having to scuff sand. 1 or 2 coats of B-I-N primer is recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Always ensure that the surface has prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Once the B-I-N Primer has dried (minimum of 45 minutes) you can overcoat it with your chosen decorative topcoat, oil based or water based. Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be a suitable finishing coat (Satin 1 litre = 13040 or 2 litre 62096). 2 coats are recommended to providing a durable, cleanable, long lasting decorative finish that stays white, does not yellow and can be over coated in just 2 hours. Hope this helps.

Radiator

Can this paint be used as a primer for very discoloured radiators.

Is this suitable for sealing a previously wallpapered wall, once the paper has been removed?

Asked by: Pete111
Hi Pete111. Thanks for your enquiry For this particular project B-I-N will certainly be a suitable primer/sealer. To prevent the risk of crazing once the B-I-N has been applied, it is very important that all wallpaper paste residue is removed. This can easily be dome with hot water and a sponge. Once the paste residue has been removed we would advise 1 or 2 coats of the B-I-N, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Once this has dried (minimum of 45 minutes) you can overcoat it with your chosen decorative topcoat, oil based or water based. Hope this helps.

is B-I-N sealer suitable for chimney breast with soot stains

Asked by: joego
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. B-I-N is the ultimate stain blocker and will work brilliantly for this particular project. To get the best finish we would advise you remove or brush off as much residual soot as possible before applying B-I-N. 1 or 2 coats of B-I-N primer is recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat and allowing a minimum of 45 minutes between coats. Once fully dry B-I-N can be finished with either a water or solvent based top coat. Hope This helps

Which product for multi uses

Would this suit both jobs? Paint over patches that have been fixed with Easi fill to stop flashing before adding coats of emulsion and as a basecoat/primer before painting a wooden varnished chest of drawers.
Asked by: BCHCornwall
Hi BCHCornwall. Thank you for your enquiry. A perfect choice for multi jobs! There will always be a chance that spot priming will result in the primer flashing through as this is dependent on the covering power of your chosen topcoat. For best results to achieve a uniformly sealed surface ready for painting our recommendations are to spot prime the repaired/filled areas with B-I-N and allow to dry for a minimum of 1 hour prior to applying a full coat of B-I-N to the whole area up to a natural break (i.e. corners, alcoves etc.). Again, you couldn't have picked a better primer for varnished surfaces as it has unparalleled adhesion to any surface providing great key without having to scuff sand. 1 or 2 coats of B-I-N is recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Always ensure that the surface has prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Once B-I-N has dried (minimum of 45 minutes) you can overcoat it with your chosen decorative topcoat, oil based or water based. Zinsser Perma-White Interior (1289G = 1L white matt or 13040 = 1L white satin) would be a suitable finishing coat. 2 coats are recommended to providing a durable, cleanable, long lasting decorative finish that stays white, does not yellow and can be over coated after a minimum of 2 hours.
