Rated 5 out of 5 by from You won't be disappointed After being recommended this by a decorator I thought I'd take the plunge! Although seams expensive it goes a long way and performance is unquestionably excellent! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best primer sealer Used this to cover damp stained wallls, and doors where the old paint/stain was bleeding through to the new paint. It covers exceptionally welll and creates an impervious coat. Good as an undercoat. Dries exceptionally quickly and therefore easy to overpaint without having to wait for ages. Suggest you buy throw away brushes: cleaning just won't be worth it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All good First time I've used this product but I can tell the difference when painting over the primer. Use zinsser to turn heavily stained skirting board white. So far so good, and very happy with the results. If I was being picky, it's a bit of a pain to clean off a brush.

Spray paint on top

Looking to spray some melamine furniture with a high gloss finish. Will the primer coat need to be sanded smooth with a high grit sandpaper prior to spraying a gloss top coat to ensure a mirror finish?
Asked by: CADMike
Hello, thank you for your enquiry. When applying a conventional decorative finish it is not generally necessary to sand/abrade the B-I-N Primer before applying the decorative finish. If you feel that after drying the applied primer is not as smooth as you would like then it can be lightly sanded. As the B-I-N Primer produces a relatively thin film it may be worth considering applying 2 coats if you are abrading to ensure you have adequate coverage over the substrate. When applying any paint other than a conventional decorative finish over the B-I-N primer it would be good practice to check compatibility of the paint systems on a small area prior to full application. We trust this information helps, regards Zinsser

Undercoat on wallpaper

Can this product be used as an undercoat on wallpaper and then painted over with a top coat of emulsion?
Asked by: S34N
Hello, thank you for your enquiry. Zinsser B-I-N Primer is recommended for application to non-porous wallpaper (vinyl) to achieve a good key prior to applying an emulsion paint. For best results we recommend ensuring the surface to be painted is completely clean and dry and that the wallpaper is soundly adhered to the wall. Apply Zinsser B-I-N Primer with a short pile roller or brush, aiming for a coverage rate of 12m2/L/coat. and allow the B-I-N to dry for a minimum of 45 minutes before applying your chosen decorative finish. As there are so many different types of wallpaper available it is generally good practice to carry out a test on a small inconspicuous area before painting the whole area. We trust this answers your question. Kind regards Zinsser

Painting over acrylic paint

My garage door is painted with an acrylic (I think) paint. I want to paint over it with a white paint topcoat. Will the Zinsser 123 seal/prime the acrylic paint to enable me to then apply a topcoat?
Asked by: GMF23
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. Our best recommendation for this would be the Bullseye 1-2-3 (1 litre = 10135 or 2.5 litre = 10136) as this can be used on exterior surfaces and will stick to a previously painted surface including acrylic. 1 or 2 coats are recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Always ensure that the surface has been prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent. Once the Bullseye 1-2-3 has dried (minimum of 1 hour) you can coat it with your chosen top coat, oil or water based. hope this helps.

Can I use this on laminate as a base for wallpaper?

Asked by: DustyR
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. The Zinsser B-I-N will certainly stick to the laminated surface. We would always advise that the surface has been prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit before the B-I-N is applied. Whilst B-I-N can be wallpapered over (once completely dry (minimum of 45 minutes)), applying a vinyl wallpaper to vinyl surface (laminate) may prove to be a little more tricky. We would therefore advise a test area is carried out as in some cases a lining paper is required. Additionally we have found that ready mixed pastes provide better results too. I hope this information helps you with your project.

Can you use a gloss roller to apply this paint?

Asked by: TMHACE
Hi. Thanks for your enquiry. B-I-N can be applied using a natural or synthetic brush or roller (nylon, polyester or blend). For cleaning tools we recommend using methylated spirit. An alternative would be to use less expensive roller sleeves or brushes that you don't mind disposing of once you have finished applying the B-I-N. I hope this helps.
