Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic What a fantastic product this is. I hate painting wood and metal but this stuff is so simple to use and It dries so quickly. Used for painting over Walnut stained varnished wood, 3 coats and its done. 2 thin coats over knots and they no longer come through, even knot sealer didn't work. The speed of this stuff drying is amazing, it takes some getting used too, but as a time saver, ie no sanding/dust etc its a life saver. Firm fan here, probably never use anything else as a primer, to steal a phrase, it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Runs & DrIes Quickly Puzzled by all the good reviews on here. Had painted one varnished fire surround with oil based paint with reasonable results for DIYer, then bought this for other fire surround. Very runny and dries quickly which doesn't give time to brush out any drips. Had to sand down this paint prior to applying final coat which is what I wanted to avoid in first place. Also very difficult to remove any spills and ended up throwing out brush.

Which brush to use?

What is the best type of brush to use with this? Synthetic? Natural Bristle? Mixed? Other?
Asked by: R0BJD
Hi ROBJD. Thank you for your enquiry. Our best recommendations for applying the B-I-N primer is to use either synthetic or natural (nylon, polyester, blend) brushes. They can be cleaned with methylated spirits or if the paint has dried on the brush we would suggest using the B-I-N brush cleaner and restorer (500ml = 6504T) I hope this helps.

Does this dry clear or stay white? By clear I accept it will give the surface a dull shine, but can't tell if this product is the same as other shellac primers I have used.

Paint On To Render

Hi There The wall is internal,lt is a little powdery to the touch so I need to use something to seal and prime before painting. Will this do the Job?
Asked by: GrotMonkey
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. Our best recommendation for sealing a powdery surface, providing the surface is not distemper, would be to apply 1 thinned coat of Bullseye 1-2-3 (1 litre = 10135 or 2.5 litre = 10136) to start with (thin with water, add 5%-10% max), allow a minimum of 1 hour to dry before applying an un-thinned coat. Once this has completely dry you can overcoat it with your chosen decorative topcoat, oil based or water based. I hope this helps.

Can it be used on polypropylene?

Would this be suitable for painting/priming a brown polypropylene plastic shed (I want to turn it into a 'beach hut' playhouse) and topcoat it with bright colours. As it will be outdoors all year round, would the Bulls Eye 1-2-3 be a better choice?
Asked by: IslandGirl
Hi IslandGirl. Thank you for your recent enquiry. Unfortunately none of the Zinsser products are suitable for application to Polypropylene. We are sorry we are unable to advise any further on this occasion.

Suitable for priming skirting with oil based gloss

Been advised that the only way to avoid yellowing is to use water based gloss. Is this product suitable for priming interior wood work ahead of an application of water based gloss? Will the surface need sanding?
Asked by: Ratboy
Hi. Thank you for your recent enquiry. B-I-N would be the perfect adhesion promoting primer. It has unparalleled adhesion to glossy surfaces without having to scuff sand and will provide a great key. 1 or 2 coats of B-I-N primer is recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Always ensure that the surface has prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Once the B-I-N Primer has dried (minimum of 45 minutes) you can overcoat it with your chosen decorative topcoat. Zinsser Perma-White Satin Interior (1 litre = 13040 or 2.5 litre = 62096) would be a suitable finishing coat. 2 coats are recommended to providing a durable, cleanable, long lasting decorative finish that stays white, does not yellow and can be over coated after a minimum of 2 hours. I hope this helps.
