Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic What a fantastic product this is. I hate painting wood and metal but this stuff is so simple to use and It dries so quickly. Used for painting over Walnut stained varnished wood, 3 coats and its done. 2 thin coats over knots and they no longer come through, even knot sealer didn't work. The speed of this stuff drying is amazing, it takes some getting used too, but as a time saver, ie no sanding/dust etc its a life saver. Firm fan here, probably never use anything else as a primer, to steal a phrase, it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Runs & DrIes Quickly Puzzled by all the good reviews on here. Had painted one varnished fire surround with oil based paint with reasonable results for DIYer, then bought this for other fire surround. Very runny and dries quickly which doesn't give time to brush out any drips. Had to sand down this paint prior to applying final coat which is what I wanted to avoid in first place. Also very difficult to remove any spills and ended up throwing out brush.

Will it cover knots coming through painted woodwork or do I need to sand back to bare wood first?

Asked by: Anonymous
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. If the previously painted surface is sound but showing a stain then you can apply the Zinsser B-I-N directly onto it. However, if the resin from the sap has contaminated the existing paint and caused it to crack then it would be advisable to sand the surface smooth then apply the Zinsser B-I-N. I hope this helps.

Can this cover rusting galvanised beading?

The guy who built my house saved a few quid by using galvanised beading rather thean PVC or SS but has left a legacy of rust bleed around all the corners. Will this cover it and keep it covered?
Asked by: oddboddog
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. For this particular project it would be advisable to address the rusting issue first with an anti-corrosive primer. Whilst B-I-N will block the stain it will not prevent the rust from worsening. Once the anti-corrosive primer has been applied B-I-N can be used to block the rust stain from showing through your chosen decorative finish which can be either oil or water based. Hope this helps.

Hi can I use this over wax stain. I want to do my door frames white but they have wax on them , thanks

Asked by: Karin
Hi Karin. Thank you for your enquiry. B-I-N is the perfect primer/sealer for interior door frames although the wax will have to be removed first as this will interfere with the adhesion. Our best recommendation would be to remove the wax with a proprietary wax remover. Once the wax has been fully removed we would advise you ensure the surface is completely clean and dry before applying the B-I-N primer. Hope this helps.

Can and will this seal bare/sanded wood/logs?

Asked by: Mark1851
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. If the wood/logs are to be used inside then B-I-N would be the most suitable primer sealer. Cover Stain (1 litre = 17114 or 2.5 litres 17117) would be more suitable for exterior use. Both of which can be applied by brush or roller and you should aim to achieve a coverage rate of 10m²/L/coat. Once allowed to dry you can over coat it with your chosen finish coat, oil or water based. Hope this helps.

Suitable for covering varnish?

Can this be used to cover varnish covers stairs
Asked by: 6969Sparky69
Hi. Thank you for your enquiry. B-I-N would be the perfect for this particular project. It has unparalleled adhesion to any surface providing great key without having to scuff sand. 1 or 2 coats of B-I-N primer is recommended, to be applied by brush or roller at a coverage rate of approx. 10m²/L/coat. Always ensure that the surface has prepared sufficiently i.e., with hot soapy water then rinsed with fresh warm water to remove detergent and when dry a good wipe with methylated spirit. Once the B-I-N Primer has dried (minimum of 45 minutes) you can overcoat it with your chosen decorative topcoat, oil based or water based. Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be a suitable finishing coat (Satin 1 litre = 13040 or 2 litre 62096). 2 coats are recommended to providing a durable, cleanable, long lasting decorative finish that stays white, does not yellow and can be over coated in just 2 hours. Hope this helps.
