Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! Expensive but worth it. Absolutely silent and can smoothly dim even a single 4w LED bulb down to practicaly nothing. Did exactly what i wanted straight out the box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Intelligent lighting for LED's Led lights need clever dimmers and that's what you get with the Varilight Pro range. Its no different to an ordinary dimmer switch to install and fits into a standard back box so retrofitting is easy. You can use it straight from the box, but it's programmable features set it apart from other dimmers. Some LED dimmable lamps work better with trailing edge dimming technology and some with leading edge. This dimmer has the option for both technologies. Most Dimmable LED's drop out as they are dimmed below a certain level, this dimmer allows you to set the lowest level the lamps work at , you can also limit how bright they will turn on to. My opinion is this is a brilliant dimmer, you can also buy the single modules to retrofit in older wall plates. Again my opinion this double dimmer is good value for money. However Screwfix needs to get the single unmounted module price down to match the other lower cost retailers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Preferred LED Dimmer Consistently the best performing LED dimmer I have fitted, silent in operation and smoothly dims pretty much all types of dimmable LED lamp. The faceplate blends with most brands of accessory and the modules themselves are compact meaning easier retro-fit into existing wall boxes. Only minor gripe is the method of entering the programming mode, can be easily done by the clumsier customer, as the lag on fade-up prompts people to push the button multiple times which then puts the unit into programming mode, giving confusing signals to the uninitiated !

What dimmer for LED 12x3w & 5x3w chandeliers

These are are on a 2gang 1way switch in a single patress at present so want a simple swap option. Thanks
Asked by: ChristopherA

Is there a fault, I have 6 x 10 watt LED bulbs yet the switch gets hot when in use,

These are Dimmable 10watt LED bulbs, the centre of the switch gets very hot too the touch but the buttons themselves are fine, is there a fault with this switch ?
Asked by: SteveDub
Hello SteveDub, thanks for your question. This dimmer, as with any dimmer, will warm up during operation, and the main way of getting the heat out is via the faceplate. It should always stay at a temperature that isn't to hot to touch, but it will naturally warm up. Thanks for your interest in Varilight.

Trailing Edge Technology

What exactly is this and how does it affect the performance of this switch?
Asked by: Tom83
Hi Tom83, thanks for your question. Trailing-edge dimmers are more sophisticated than leading-edge dimmers, and usually use an IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) switch rather than a TRIAC and coil. This benefits the user with smooth, silent dimming control, absent of any buzzing noise. A trailing-edge dimmer has a lower minimum load than leading-edge dimmers, making it a better choice for dimming modestly sized low-powered lighting circuits. Particularly beneficial for incandescent and halogen bulbs is the ‘soft start’ feature in trailing-edge dimmers, which prevents filament bulbs from dying or exploding of thermal shock when first switched on. Thanks for your interest in Varilight.

Minimum Wattage

Just want to udnerstand what the minimum load is for these switches. If two 6 Watt Light used (one driven by each gang) with this what level will the dimmer work? If so, what level would it dim to?
Asked by: Tom83
Hello Tom83, thanks for your question. This dimmer has no listed minimum, so can be used with any 1 lamp at any wattage. Your load will be suitable for this dimmer. Thanks for your interest in Varilight.
