Product is not suitable for use on wooden substrates
Rated 5 out of 5 by great reliable product Been using this water seal for many years and will continue for many more. Easy to apply with any brush. keeps out all moisture over winter. 6 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Recommended Great product. Good price, easy to apply does what it's supposed to. If you need to waterproof something, this is the stuff to use. Recommended 4 Mar 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by NEW WATER BASED FORMULA ! ! ! Just purchased 3x5ltr tins. Not the old 'HIGH VOC' type that will also suit wood, but the new water based that CANNOT be used for wood. Web pic is of the old type, really disappointed that the goods supplied do are not suitable for wood, such as sheds or fencing. Having used the old stuff on my new shed, glad I have some left to do another day, don't think the new variety will overcoat what is already applied........... Screwfix advised of the discrepancy in the product description.......... 14 Jan 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Changed formulation I have used this product previously, and I had a part tin left. That soaked into the brickwork nicely without any spillage, being solvent-based. The new "improved" formula is water-based, and does not penetrate the masonry, but runs down the wall to puddle on the floor. Efficacy remains to be seen, but my preference is strongly for the old formulation. Disappointed. 10 Dec 2015

Thanks for your question. Water Seal isn't the right product to use on horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic (paths, patios etc) it is just a purely a water repellent and wouldn't offer any other protection in these areas. The Thompson's Patio & Block Paving Seal would be more suitable.

I have a small kitchen extension 1m x 3m with a concrete floor that appears to get slightly damp near the exterior walls. The rest of the house has wooden floor boards.

If this is not suitable, have you any suggestions?

Hi thanks for your question. Unfortunately Water Seal would not help in this instance. If the problem is caused by penetrating damp (rain water) through the exterior walls Water Seal could be applied externally to help with this issue.

Hi thanks for your question. Thompson's Water Seal would be fine to apply to a chimney breast, it sometimes can darken the substrate slightly but will not leave any type of finish. We don't however recommend it is used on patios, sorry.
