Rated 4 out of 5 by sika waterproofing Used as a waterproofing agent in a render mix. Followed instructions for mixing and it did exactly as stated in the specification. 1 Apr 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Keeps water out There is little else to say, mix it right and it keeps the water out, just on the prices side but does the job 1 Jan 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Mixed for a pond wall render Well this is a partial review as all I've done is apply the coat of render to the inside wall of the pond. Good points so far - the light yellow colour stays in the mixed water solution 1:10 ratio. but does not colour the mix of 1 cement to 2.5 rendering sharp sand. These ratios seem hard to find on directly on the web. It mixed in fine and looked to be quite workable for at least 2 hours, i'd finished by then. I used about a 1/3 of the 5 litre bottle for two bags of rendering sand and just under a bag of cement. so perhaps (my guess) around a square meter of wall for each litre used. Will it do what its meant to? only time will tell. but its well recommended elsewhere and specked for the job. 11 Mar 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect product High quality product from sika, Follow the instructions exactly and leave in the mixer until the right consistency is reached. Blocks water forever! very strong when used with stainless expamet. 14 Apr 2014

Mixing

Why can't this be used in a tumble type cement mixer? Can it be mixed by hand instead?

Answer:
We recommend that its only mixed mechanically using a forced action mixer or drill and paddle mixer to limit the amount of air entrapment and to ensure thorough dispersion of the Sika 1 admixture through the mix. A tumble mixer is not suitable for mixing because they tend to introduce to much air and sometimes are not thorough enough at dispersing the gauging solution equally throughout the mix.

Can I use this to improve a below ground swimming pool render, which will subsequently be epoxy painted? Is there any advice you can offer for the render mix that will improve it? The render will be applied to the block walls to a thickness of 1/2" or so.

This is a specialist application and the Sika1 render system will work better but please check all the published technical data to ensure suitability and application recommendations.

Answer:
No it doesn't have a plasticiser in it as such and you are correct that no other building chemicals should be added to it but the chemical action does reduce the water needed producing a nice render or screed mix.

Answer:
Sika® 1 liquid admixture is diluted 1:10 by volume with clean water to form a gauging solution.
When its being used as a general waterproofer coverage is approximately 0.75 Litres per 25Kg of cement.

Answer:
Is probably best to use one of the specific 'damp proof membranes' for floors and also unfortunately PVA is not generally recommended areas which may be exposed to damp.
